For a happy stomach, go to Szechuan Noodle Bowl

Friday, December 30, 2005
One of Seattle's best under $10 restaurants is Szechuan Noodle Bowl in Chinatown. Every afternoon, the owners and staff make fresh pork/cabbage and spinach/tofu dumplings. The dumplings are steamed rather than fried and are served with a separate dipping sauce or served in a hot and spicy sauce. The latter dish: #10 Hot and Spicy Vegetarian Dumplings is my bowl of choice. For those who like noodles with meat, try the Beef Noodle Soup. It is served piping hot with thick noodles, clean bok choy*, and well-stewed beef. If you're with friends or are really hungry, or both, order the Green Onion Pancakes appetizer. Szechuan Noodle Bowl has less than a dozen tables and they only accept cash, but they are as fresh as any dumpling house in Flushing, NY or even Hong Kong. (* Other places serve bok choy with soil and insects.)
