good selection, questionable customer service experience

My husband and I are doing a lot of work on our house these days and plumbing is the current beast we're slaying.
We've been buying all of our plumbing supplies for a new bath from Aurora Plumbing, and although we've known they are overpriced in comparison to the chain stores, we've felt good about supporting a small operation that gives good technical advice. The other reason we've gone there is because they carry materials you can't find at the chain stores--sizes and types that are not typical.
And up until a few days ago we felt great about Aurora Plumbing, but my husband had such a negative experience that we may well be writing them off. (We do give everyone the credit of having a bad or off day, so if we really write them off is yet to be determined). The short of it is that they charged us for the use of a tool that they assured us would be free-of-charge. No, we didn't get that in writing :-( This was a tool that we neither wanted or had requested. They then proceeded to give us a hard time, as if we were taking up their valuable time questioning them about it.
It was a lousy customer service experience, compounded by a long wait, that made us ready to head over to the nearest Lowes or Home Depot where we don't necessarily expect expert advice but do pay significantly less for materials.
