My husband and I are doing a lot of work on our house these days and plumbing is the current beast we're slaying.
We've been buying all of our plumbing supplies for a new bath from Aurora Plumbing, and although we've known they are overpriced in comparison to the chain stores, we've felt good about supporting a small operation that gives good technical advice. The other reason we've gone there is because they carry materials you can't find at the chain stores--sizes and types that are not typical.
And up until a few days ago we felt great about Aurora Plumbing, but my husband had such a negative experience that we may well be writing them off. (We do give everyone the credit of having a bad or off day, so if we really write them off is yet to be determined). The short of it is that they charged us for the use of a tool that they assured us would be free-of-charge. No, we didn't get that in writing :-( This was a tool that we neither wanted or had requested. They then proceeded to give us a hard time, as if we were taking up their valuable time questioning them about it.
It was a lousy customer service experience, compounded by a long wait, that made us ready to head over to the nearest Lowes or Home Depot where we don't necessarily expect expert advice but do pay significantly less for materials.

Before seeing a play on Friday, my husband and I snagged the last table at Panos Kleftiko Taverna. What luck! It was busy and service was just a bit slow. But it was so worth it! We may have ordered one too many mezze (appetizers), but that's all we ordered, and they were all delicious. I was particularly fond of the eggplant dish. There was a good range of choices for both meat and non-meat eaters, which always makes me happy. I've worked in the area for a while now, and I can't believe it took me so long to finally eat here. Highly recommended, but be forewarned that there are a few tables (someone else mentioned about 10, this could be right) and it probably fills up very quickly during peak times.

Having lived in a major city where the radio stations were all owned by Clear Channel (ok, almost all of them), I am grateful everyday for KEXP. Yes, John in the Morning is great but I'll even listen to Wo-Pop. And remember, this radio station relies on member support, so pony up during those pledge drives!!

Burrito Loco on Holman Road is a good stand-by. It's somewhere I go when I want a tasty meal for not a whole lot of money. It's a casual and clean place, with charming murals on the wall. I enjoy the selection of vegetarian options (the spinach enchilada is quite good), beer and the complimentary chips and salsa. It was crowded last time I went but that to me is a good sign. And because it was a bit crowded the parking lot was full and we needed to park sort of on the sidewalk.

In my world, lots of cheese, in particular ricotta, is a requirement for a calzone. So imagine my surprise when I ordered a calzone and it had a thin layer of "mozzarella" in it making it almost a glorified grilled cheese. It tasted just fine for what it was, but it did not satisfy my craving for a calzone. I guess if you didn't bring too many expectations to the table, you'd be happy. The service was super, though, and that certainly goes a long way.

I recently enjoyed a performance of 'Noises Off' at the Everett Historic Theatre. What a lovely asset to the community! I appreciate the experience of smaller, community theaters. If my understanding is correct, the theater was quite run down for a while, but the community got together and brought it back to life. Everett's certainly come a long way, and supporting organizations such as a local theater is one way to encourage the process of revitalization.

I'm not even close to being cool enough for this bar, but I love the Hideout. The things I enjoy most are 1) although it's way cooler than I am, I always feel welcomed and 2) where else can you order a drink called the "Andy Warhol" that comes with a polaroid picture of your or your group? It's in a very odd location, so if you feel you've missed it, you probably have. Just walk back and look for a few small neon signs outside.

We leave our dog here when we head out of town. It's conveniently located for us, clean and has competitive pricing. I'm always put off by their hours, though. They have a policy that you can only pick up between 9-10am or else you get charged for another day. I always find this hard to do since I work, but alas, that's their policy.

We've been bringing our dog to Edmonds Westgate Veterinary for about one year now. Our dog has incredible allergies--you name it, she's allergic to it. Beyond enclosing her in a bubble, we were out of options as all the treatments other vets had prescribed did not work. Only at Edmonds Westgate did they encourage us to manage her symptoms instead of trying to find the cure. It has been a long road to find a vet that listens ("no, we don't have another $1500 to spend on the newest treatment") and provides excellent care. We've visited with both Drs. Boyd and Zacharia and they've both been wonderful to work with.

I've enjoyed my visits to the Acorn, and I've particularly enjoyed the acorn squash soup and salads. Meals are priced well and the happy hour menu is a good deal. There never seems to be a wait, which is good for you! I suspect not many people know of the Acorn, and really, they should. The odd-shaped parking lot makes it a bit challenging to park, but I think they've done the best with what they have.
