If you like stationery, this is a nice store. You can find your standard Hallmark cards for all occasions. There's plenty of gift wrap, bows, gift bags, and a variety of plush toys and ornaments when you're stumped for a gift. The Hallmark brand has always been a favorite of mine. You just don't see enough of these specialty stores around. I usually like stopping in to see what new items they bring out for each holiday.

This is quite a good pastry shop but not the only one in NYC. They are famous and have a lot of history but I really think they are quite overrated. Friends raved about their cannolis but when I finally tried them, they were only average. It's a great place to take friends and to hang out though -- it's spacious and has a great atmosphere, which I think adds to my friends' high praise for their pastries.

Whenever I'm in the area and in need of a quick snack without too much of a wait (besides your hotdog stands and roasted nut stands), I pick up my regular cinnamon raisin with cream cheese here. Bagels are quite fresh, soft and large. Service is fast. Food is cheap. What else can you ask for? Their smoked salmon spread is quite good, too. Not too crazy about their muffins -- just stick to what they are most popular for.

One of my favorite beauty shops. It's all-inclusive and you can find a great selection of makeup and perfumes. The store is immense and looks gorgeous. Staff is usually too friendly but always helpful. You can always test the different makeup products there. And there are plenty of quality products, from the high-end designers to the the trendy Hollywood products. Great to step in while you're near Herald's Square.

They have plenty of camera merchandise to fit your needs but the prices are only average. They do photos, passport photos, as well as repairs. This time of the year, they've been advertising for their customized photo hoilday cards. I wasn't really impressed with their selection as I have been spoiled by B&H Photo. However, this is better than your run of the mill camera shops all around midtown.

Friends have always highly recommended this brand for as long as I can remember. I've made a few treks up North while visiting friends in the Northeast. It's quite an amazing store. This store in Freeport is their flaghip store and is open 24 hours. They have clothing, home furnishings, anything outdoors -- gear for fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, boating, you name it, they have it. And the quality is superb. The best thing I love about LLBean is their return policy -- if you're not satisfied, just return it. I remember seeing people bringing back worn clothing or boots and the cashiers would just take it. I've been quite happy with everything I've bought so I've never had to use their return policy.

One of NY's most well known pharmacy's. There's one in every neighborhood. Just like your Eckerd's, CVS, Rite-Aid or Walgreens. However, I find that their stores are generally better organized. The employees usually are more professional and helpful. Boxes aren't littered in the aisles and you usually can find things easily. Most importantly, things are in stock. As far as prices go, they are a little more expensive than the others but they have weekly sales that you can find in the store circulars.

This is the only "mall" in the area. However it doesn't have your standard mall chain stores. This is what you would consider and Asian mall. Plenty Asian clothing boutiques and novelty shops. The stores are quite small and there's only two levels to walk around. It feels quite bare and uninteresting. There are a few jewelry stores, a bridal shop, music learning center, and a food court on the first level. If you visit, just go and try the food or the Japanese restaurant. Otherwise, don't bother.

Sometimes it's nice to just have everything in one building which was why it used to be fun coming into this mall. They closed off the top levels to businesses. There really isn't much to see and the food court isn't really that good. However, you're not too far off from the next clothing shop or any shop, for that matter. Just turn the corneer and you can see Macy's down on Herald's.

Ever since their redesign and expansion, they've attracted more businesses and customers. It's cleaner, larger and more comfortable. There are plenty high back sofas and couches to sit on every level of the mall. I'm glad they brought in more specialty stores, shoes, Club Monaco, Armani, Urban Outfitters, Guess, Coach, etc. There's much more variety to choose from. Plus, they expanded the food court to the entire bottom level of the 2nd part of the mall.
