Liberal? Drink? join Drinking Liberally, a grassroots political group of like minds who meet every thursday from 7:30 onward. The meeting place, Rudy's Bar and Grill, is a gem of a bar on 9th Ave, serving up cold brew at good prices. A backyard garden for when it gets a bit too humid inside, and free hot dogs and popcorn add to the mix.
When you get there, introduce yourself, buy a pitcher of beer and just talk. Justin, the organizer and founder of DL will be there so, look for a guy surrounded by women - that's Jusitn... who knows, Gifford Miller or Gerry Nadler may be there as well.
oh, and if you're brain injured, as I am, be aware that the bouncer will just think you're a lying drunk and will 86 you

The last time I went to Vegetarian Dim Sum House, there were eight of us for a birthday dinner - the entire meal cost us $32 ... located on the dog leg side of Pell Street in Chinatown, VDSH offers up plates of someof the best dim sum I have ever had. unpresupposing, the restaurant is a baby blue hue with large dark wood tables. the menus are brought to you and you make your choices including mock meat so real , you think it IS meat. prices range from $2.00 for dumplings on up to $16 for "meat"
Dining is unhurried and relaxing. service is good, and the food wonderful.
Try it. you'll agree.

Empire coffee, as the title states has been brewing and selling coffee in Hell's Kitchen since 1908. Walk into the store and your senses are filled with the aroma of whole beans from around the globe roasted to their perfect styles. Boxes of tea and tea pts, coffee pots and accesories fill the shelves above and beyond the burlap sacks of Hawaiian Kona, City Roast Espresso, Italian and Jamaican Blue. Opposite, sweets to round the perfect brew. Beans that are not over roasted coffee that tastes just a good cold as hot, and under a buck for a small cup. The staff is lively, personable and very knowledgable regarding the coffee and teas. Buy a cup, and sink into the comfy couch, from whence you will be loathe to move from. No Internet here. newspapers and a bit of conversation, only.
One cup of coffee or tea here, and that chain will be but an over roasted memory.
