I've seen a lot of bad reviews of Fresh Direct on Chowhound but I've been very happy with my experiences. Yes, the food is very fresh, the selection is good, and the delivery is very reliable. Their website is generally user friendly, but you may occasionally not find a product you want (they are continually adding things) Prices are not any higher than what you find in the supermarket (at least not in NYC supermarkets) and the quality of their prepared foods is generally good (but you need to experiment to find what you like; there are definitely a few duds among their selections). I have had a few problems, mostly missing items. When this happen you just need to use their online response form; they have always credited my account within 24 hours. They seem to be trying very hard and I think they do a tremendous job, given the logistical complexities of what they are doing - delivering huge amounts of food all over NYC in every weather/traffic condition. So I give the a big thumbs up.
