This little store on the Ave in the U District packs a soapy punch. The collection of soaps is truly outstanding. They also sell bath toys and items for kids baths. The Soap Box also has a great collection of shower curtains including one with a map of the world that I saw once on the East Coast and had been searching for ever since. Prices are a little high but the customer service is great and they are happy to help you find something even if they don't stock it.

This used bookstore by the University of Washington has enough intriguing finds to keep me coming back for more. The philosophy and literature sections are especially big and prices are on average pretty good. For instance I recently purchased a Gunter Grass novel that looked brand new for eight dollars (i originally retailed for 16 dollars). They also sell older and more rare volumes. Magus customer service is very good and they buy books in exchange for credit.

This grocery store carries all the usual groceries. Its charm lies in its more eclectic selection. This is true especially in the wine and cheese section as well as the bakery. Outside there is a flower market that really adds to the color of Queen Anne. The selection and freshness of flowers is also great. Prices are not as high as some other grocery stores in the area and quite often they have good sales on one or two high end items.

This is a very small movie theater in the University District. Only one movie at a time plays here. The movie selection usually leans towards indie or arthouse movies. The popcorn and other concession food is okay. Customer service here is great. The seats are very comfortable. The Seven Gables has a discount program that allows you to purchase a group of tickets for thirty dollars. I think you save roughly three dollars everytime you go if you use the discount packet.

This store is a somewhat small used bookstore on one of the main streets in west Seattle. It has a very quite environment that encourages browsing. Like many used bookstores in Seattle the fiction section is very good while the non fiction sections don't offer many choices. Prices are average for a used bookstore and the customer service is top notch.

Than this store is the place you want to go. Row upon row of popular fiction-including such sub genres as science fiction and mystery. The non fiction section are not so great. Usually filled with filler books but occasionally you can find something in the history or philosophy section worth reading. Prices here are average but don't sell your books here. They will give you a dollar or two for a sack full of paperbacks.

This is not the bookstore to shop at if you are looking for non fiction. Mystery and general fiction are the heart and soul of this operation. The mystery section in particular has a lot of depth to it. There are many cats in this store so you may not want to visit if you are allergic. Customer service is okay as are the prices.

These chocolates are better than your average candy bar but not as good as the real thing. They do have quite a variety though. In Seattle you can purchase them at many stores throughout the city and also at their warehouse where you can enjoy a substantial discount. If you are out of town they have a good website that will deliver for you.

The Seattle flagship store for REI in Seattle has almost anything an outdoors person could want. The camping section is very big and even carries a selection of freeze dried organic food. The ski section, while pricey has a decent selection. Kayaks and bikes are also covered here. The basement holds a rental and repair shop. Upstairs is a wide selection of clothes and shoes for almost any activity. If you become a member at REI you will receive dividends each year on items that you purchase. REI can be expensive but they have great sales throughout the year including a member only sale that is truly outstanding.

Cardullo's is a food specialty shop that entices you before you even enter the store with their chocolate window displays. Once inside, the large tea selection beckons you and fights with the clotted cream for your attention. There is a deli counter that sells delicious sandwiches and other provisions to go. If you want something special for your dinner party or a picnic be sure to stop by this store. Prices are a little high but well worth it. The service is great.
