El Rodeo serves standard Mexican restaurant fare at lightning fast speeds (my food has actually beaten my water to the table). You, of course, get your standard chips and salsa to start. My favorite thing, chicken nachos, is no longer on the menu, but they always make it for me when I ask for it. The margaritas are famous for being huge, and they are - they're also very very good. The $6 price tag comes as a shocker for some but I think they're a better deal than the margaritas at most other restaurants. The staff is VERY accomidating for large groups (though we often phone ahead just to make very certain if it's the evening hours), and will gladly do separate checks and credit cards for 20+ people (something you don't often find).

Global Village is right across the street from Patterson Hall, in the center of Hillsborough street's NC State stretch. The coffee is excellent - they use organically grown coffee and have a large amount of information available about social responsiblity for your coffee habit. There's a great deal of seating in a small space. The mint mocha (which my friends and I have affectionately dubbed "liquid thin mint") is to die for. The lighting and decor are cheery and quite pleasant - check out the painting of the building from when the coffee shop was a bike shop sitting on the shelves.

Cup of Joe has the privledge of being a local chain, which means I, off the bat, love them a billion times more than I'll ever love a chain. That said, it is quite smoky in there - if you're a non-smoker, stay in the main room or get it to go. Their specials are quite good. For a few years (don't know if they still do - the smoke gets to me and I can't go there anymore) they ran a "Wired Wednesday" promo where you basically got an extra shot or two of espresso for a quarter in your drinks. The iced king mocha and I got through a summer together. Definately worth the short walk from campus.

Cosmic Cantina is a Triangle area institution. Anyone can eat here (carnivorous or vegetarian) and leave very full and not that much poorer). The service is quick and the food is delicious. The atmosphere is a little dingy, somehwat of a dive, but that just adds to the fun of it. A great place to hit before or after the bars or a show, and a fun place to hang out with friends. Check out the Independent Weekly - they usually have a coupon to make it even cheaper.

Cookout has very good burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, hushpuppies, onion rings, and most importantly, Milkshakes!
The food is good. The best deal is the Cookout Tray. For $3.99, you get your choice of eight different main sandwiches/hotdog/etc (I always get the big double burger, which alone would usually be well over $2). Then you get to pick two sides from among fries, hushpuppies, onion rings, corn dog, and chicken nuggets (yes, you can get more meat as a side, ha ha). You get about 1/2 of a regular order (ie, you could order 12 hushpuppies for $1, you get 6 in the tray). You get a large soda or a HUGE tea or, for $0.80 more, you can get a milkshake. They offer dozens of flavors of milkshakes - my favorite is the strawberry cheesecake. You can also combine flavors on the menu, and the people working are always willing to offer more suggestions.
The service is very fast - double drive through, even! With the tray, for just $2 you can add a cookout t-shirt to your wardrobe, a great bit of local kitch.

Melvin's is notable for advertising it's $2.99 Wolfpack special. For $2.99 you get a hamburger, a small side of fries, and a drink. The order of fries is quite small, but it's still a pretty good deal. You can pay a dollar more and get a double burger, and that makes the meal much more filling. The patties are somewhat small but thicker - more like a hand shaped burger than a regularly shpaed burger. Almost like what mom pulls off the grill. The chili on the burgers is excellent, and they're thrown together lightning fast. Definately a grease joint, but that's why I enjoy it so much.

This Brugger's, right across the street from Winston Hall at NC State, often has a long line - but the service is unbelievably fast. I still don't know how they process people through the line so quickly! The Brugger's fare is standard but good (I heart the chicken fajita on the sundried tomato bagel). Branch out and try different cream cheese/bagel combos. The Technician (NC State's student paper) often runs coupons for a free bagel or buy a sandwich get one free. Parking is difficult during the day (there are a few meters) but ample after 5 PM and on weekends when the lot across the small side-street is free-for-all.

Flats serves a variety of different fare, including Polish dishes. There's often a special posted out front and the owner is very friendly. The real highlight at Flats, however, is the lemonade! I had never been to Flats when a friend of mine dragged me there to taste the lemondade that she could go for more than a week without. Pick any meal that you wish, but make sure you order lemonade to sip with it!

When I was in East Lansing last summer, Cosi was one of my favorites places to stop in and have a sandwich. The bread is just amazing! The fruit cups are good as well. When I went for lunch, the place was always crazy busy - be prepared to wait in line for a few minutes, but they're surprisingly fast. My favorite sandwich? The country ham and brie (the honey mustard they put on it is thick and *amazing!*). At dinner time, Cosi "grows up" to a restaurant where they seat you and come take your order. The pizzas are large and easily share-able. One of the most expensive quick-eateries on Grand River, but worth it.

Games Galore carries a tremendous selection of games and game pieces (dice, etc). Whether you're looking for a game from your past that someone just-so-happens to still have in pristine condition or last year's award-winners, Games Galore probably has it. There are a few of my favorite games they don't carry consistently (Dutch Blitz, for instance), so I often do wind up ordering games online despite how closeby Games Galore is. It's great for browsing or discovering new games when you don't know just what you're after.
