The Cardinal Club is a private club, but their space atop the Wachovia building is available for rent for parties. A group I'm a part of recently used the space for a formal reunion and while a bit smaller than expected, it was quite nice. Check it out before booking it to make sure it fits your needs, but the catering was fantastic and it's really a lovely space if it's what you need.

The Holiday Inn Brownstone is a fairly nice Holiday Inn (it was only recently bought by Holdiay Inn). It's primary perk is its very close location to North Carolina State University. The service is friendly and reasonable. When I stayed there, the lights did flicker some - but I had the "experience" of staying there at the same time as participants in the Junior Miss North Carolina pagent, and it was probably the hair dryers mucking with the electricity at 7:30 AM. Great place to stay, but I'd call and ask if was also booked for any events (like the Junior Miss NC Pagent) just to make your stay more pleasant.

Schoolkids Records is the definitive place to go in Raleigh for music. They carry an enormous selection and if they don't have it, they'll get it for you. The staff is ridiculously knowledgeable about the music they sell, music in general, and the local music scene. Some local venues make concert tickets available through Schoolkids.

The Record Exchange, still conveniently located on Hillsborough Street near Brugger's, has cds and dvds, new and used, for sale (and dvds, for rent). DVD rentals are $1 per night (can't beat that especially if you live in the dorms). The staff is incredibly knowledgeable about music and you can often find people just hanging out in there who also know a great deal. Caveat on the used stuff - make sure you play it right away so you can return promptly, and make sure it's the right DVD in the case before you leave. I've had excellent service here for years. Some concert tickets are available here as well...but that's sort of spotty.

Qdoba is my favorite of the local Baja Burrito/Cosmic Cantina/Moe's/Qdoba type restaurants that you can find in Raleigh (my favorite period is Chipotle, but it's not available locally). Why do I prefer it? They offer "lighter" fare. I'm not sure if it's lighter in terms of calories, but they actually have fajita burrito options available (skip the beans, and get veggies instead) and the cilantro lime rice just doesn't seem as heavy. The portions are really generous, and I've never been charged extra for asking for both sour cream and cheese (athem, Moe's). You can find $5 meal coupons in coupon circulars and books across Raleigh (any entree and drink for $5 + tax), and the student ID discount is a free drink. You don't get chips with your meal, but I honestly couldn't imagine being able to eat one after finishing one of the burritos.

Thai Chili is an excellent Thai restaurant conveniently locatedin the Toco Hills shopping center. I went here with some people from work for a nicer lunch - the prices were reasonable (under $10 a head) and service was prompt but not at all rushed. The soups were incredible, and everyone enjoyed their menu selections. I only wish I could go more often!

I visted Cafe Intermezzo as part of a friend's more formal bachelorette dinner. The food was absolutely amazing. The drink menu is a large brochure with information about all the drink's backgrounds, and the drinks are quite good. They were very hospitable even for our large party with separate checks, and even broke up the bride's cost amongst all of our checks for us. We sat on the back patio, which was fabulous. I really have to visit again sometime!

Casa Grande is my favorite Mexican restuarant in the area. The food is fantastic. The service is lightning fast and the price is ridiculously cheap - my mom and I always get 3 chicken quesadillas, a side of rice, and a side of sour cream for under $10. Every time I'm in town, it's a must-visit.

Salisbury Mall is Salisbury's only mall. It contains a Belk's, Penny's, Goody's, Big Lots, and the largest Dollar Tree I've ever been in. It also has a Friday Morning and Hallmark and several jewelry stores. The Books a Million is the largest book store in Salisbury. The mall is sufficient to cover the basics if you're local, but most younger people in Salisbury travel to Concord, Winston Salem, or Charlotte for their shopping.

DJ's serves a typical selection of AmerItalian food. It's one of the nicer places to dine in Salisbury, in my opinion. They're open to large groups (we used it for high school play cast parties quite often). I sometimes go just for dessert - the dessert case is always beautiful and appealing. Their cheesecake is the greatest in town, hands down - but if you're making a trip just for it, call ahead, they sometimes sell out.
