"Crazy Yarn House"... 12/11/2005

My friends and I often call this yarn shop "the Crazy Yarn house", and it seems to be just that. The shop is in an old house on Chatham Street - you're best off parking in the Cary News parking lot next door. The staff is helpful and always seems to be helping someone with a knitting project. They carry a wide variety of yarns - most of the KFI yarns (Debbie Bliss, Noro), as well as Plymouth, Dale of Norway, and Borocco. They carry several varieties of needles, including bamboo and Addi. Though they stock a lot of yarn, finding it can be a bit of a challenge - there tends to be bags of yarn just lying on the floor in front of the areas a particular yarn is stocked - so you wind up tip-toeing around bags of yarn. There seem to be "rooms" - a room of novelty, a room of patterns, a room of Dale stuff, a room of socks, a room of wools and such, and an upstairs table of discounted yarns. Individual skeins and shelves are not labelled with prices - you have to look those up in yellow guides clipped to stands throughout the store. They can be somewhat difficult to use. The shop is definately *not* handicapped accessible or for the mobility challenged - you often must sqeeze by other customers. The lighting can also be challenging. This shop definately isn't my favorite in the area for ease-of-use, but they carry a lot of yarn and many varieties that other local stores simply don't carry. Not my first choice, but a yarn addict winds up at all the stores anyways... more
