When I asked fellow Brooklanders if there was a good mechanist in the area, they all had the same response: Tony Lee. They raved on and on about how decent he was in price and service. If someone hadn't sworn by him, the appearance of his garage might have scared me. But when I took a dead car to him fully expecting him to say the alternator had died. He called first thing in the morning and said he had replaced the battery, changed the oil and filter and it was ready to go for only $100. He was fast, honest and friendly. A true neighborhood mechanic who takes pride in his service. A true gem.

The American City Diner used to be a cool retro diner with decent food and a great jute box. Over the years they have changed the menu and expanded out to a "patio" section that is cold and ruins the retro look of the diner. Expectations weren't too high on the food. Good burgers. Thick shakes. Comfortable booths. Not a bad experience. But the wait staff seems irritated that we're bothering them. I have had to wait up to an hour for brunch. It's just not worth it.

Mention Colonel Brooks' and people smile. It really doesn't matter that the food is predictable, the service is slow and the prices are high for what they serve. People just love the atmosphere. It does feel like an old English pub, and it is one of a very few places to eat in Brookland. Their Fish & chips are light and flaky. The burgers are decent. But I have had beef brisket so fatty that it was inedible and had to be returned. The food is random, sometimes it's great and other times I wished I stay home.

Mr Henry's is great in the fall and spring. You can sit outside on the patio and enjoy zucchini sticks and a thick cheese burger. That said, it's really not worth the trip if you are forced to sit indoors. The main floor is the smoking section and is crowded and loud. They often rope off the upstairs (non-smoking) with out warning. The food is basic fare and is decent. The wait staff is SLOW and unresponsive. Since Mr Henry's is one of a few places on the Hill that serves burger's, sometimes you just have to cope.

I have never had a bad Kabob from Moby Dick's. Nicely marinated and grilled to perfection, the meat is tender and juicy. Eat in or take out, it's worth the trip. Choose from fluffy white rice or hot, crispy naan. Both are wonderful. I've called when walking out of my house and arrived within minutes to find my order waiting for me. I haven't been too thrilled with their grilled eggplant dish, it's a bit bland and unexciting. Their yogurt sauce, while good, is heavy on mint and lighter on garlic than you might expect.
Their Chicken Kabob is a good deal, giving you a healthy serving for less than $10, but Tenderloin kabob seems lacking in portion. Overall a good experience.

Although nicer than their Arlington location, Delhi Dhaba in NW DC is still a casual place to eat. The food arrives hot & fresh. There is great variety. The staff is friendly. Overall an enjoyable experience. Their hot food bar is bland and the food taste like it's been over-warmed, but freshly prepared items are worth it. There is an attached parking lot and they do validate.
