This warehouse is devoted to a local music scene, often mostly comprised of punk music, but more recently expanding the type of bands they tend to book. I saw Mirah there somewhat recently, Calvin Johnson, and also Casiotone For The Painfully Alone. It's a somewhat grungy venue, but well worth it for the spunky atmosphere. To get into a show, you need to pay $2 for a membership that lasts for the entire year, in addition to the cost of the show. Once you are a meber, you have full voting rights about what goes on in the organization, and are invited to teh regular meetings that are held to run the organization. You may also volunteer to do various tasks for a show, and get in for free. This was ideal when I went to see CFTPA, as I was able to work the door during the first two bands (which I wasn't interested in hearing anyway), stamping hands, and then was able to get in for free to the second half. Get involved!

This grocery store is amazing. Words can barely describe.... This is like a local version of the best parts of Whole Foods, without the preppy factor, and a produce section that is ten times better. The produce section is as large as most Trader Joe's stores are. The produce is very reasonably priced, and the selection is large and diverse. The thing I love about Berkeley Bowl is that even though they are in many ways a health food store, they also have your basic store requirements like saran wrap or candles or things like that. They also have a friendly, knowledgable staff and a large bulk goods aisle. Sushi, check. Pizza, check. Olive bar, check. Burritos, soup, deli, yes. Etc.

I love to make curries, so I can find great curry spices here. There is also a large selection of Indian music albums available. I buy my phone cards here because they are way cheaper than Long's Drugs across the street. They also have those yummy cardamom sticky desserts. I don't know what they are called, but they sure are good. I'd say, give them a try!

Everything she says is true. The pizza is fabulous. If you are in Emeryville, you can go to Arizmendi, and it is owned by the same co-op, and the pizza there is just as good!

The time I was there the line was out the door, so if you are in a hurry, it might not be the right place, but the line was well entertained by a lovely old woman playing piano in the small dining room for fun. It made it a nice wait, plus the pizza smelled really good, and of course was.

I just wanted to give some kudos to the copy staff at the local Office Max. I like to support local stores, but there is no local copy store within walking distance of my house, and Office Max is right around the corner. That said, the copy staff is always super helpful and friendly every time I go in there. They never charge for mistakes, and they always have a genuine smile. What a nice surprise from a corporate national chain.

Hi there.
I just went here for lunch today, and as always, their pizza is amazingly good. They always make a different pizza every day and only offer that one option, but I have never had a pizza I didn't like. Even if the pizza has something I don't like on it (like eggplant), it is cut so thinly and baked just right that the flavor is the part that is there. So the texture doesn't get weird (I can be kind of weird with textures). In any case, all of their breads and sweet baked goods have always been stellar as well. It's a co-op, too, so it has a certain feel-good vibe when you walk in the door. Try it out! If you are in Berkeley, the Cheeseboard is the same co-op, so the nice folk at Arizmendi tell me.
