The standards with a twist

Wednesday, December 07, 2005
At first glance the menu can look mundane but Eatery puts a twist on everything they do. My boyfriend and I had a nice weekend evening meal here the other day and plan to come back when we need a good hearty meal and don't feel like leaving our neighborhood. The atmosphere was nice, a little too dark for a family place and a little too loud for a romance. I thought the prices were pretty reasonable for the area and the quality. You can go next door to the two Italian restaurants or across the street to Georgio's and maybe pay a little less if you order right, but you'll miss the creativity that Eatery offers. Instead of bread to start the meal, you get a fluffy chip that I would guess is made of rice or potato flour. Kind of like Robert's Gourmet Potato Flyers...they're not the most flavorful things but they're interesting. I had the tequila shrimp, which was a little more fried than I expected but still full of flavors. The most popular dish around us by far was the meatloaf, which comes with a chiptole sauce. If you're in the mood for the classics but enjoy unique and creative flavor combinations, this place is for you.
