G T did a very professional job on a video transfer that I needed (PAL with copy-protection to NTSC). It was just a few dollars more than the Indian grocery store that bungled the job the first time I tried to have it done, and they did a perfect job. Their price was much cheaper than some of the other places around town that I contacted first, too.

This little Indian grocery store sells lots of spices and other food items from India, and that part's fine - but they also rent Indian videos (haven't tried that part myself) and offer video-transferring services. I don't recommend the video services, though - when I brought them a videotape from the UK to transfer from PAL to NTSC they recorded it in EP/SLP mode and the picture didn't track right at all. Come for the spices, forget the video transferring - I ended up going to G T in Greenwood which was much more professional.

This little shop at Pike Place Market is my favorite place to buy Middle Eastern grocery items. One of my favorite finds is canned fava beans (make sure to get the seasoned "secret recipe" kind) which are just $1.29/can. They also have some good bulk spices such as zahtar and sumac, plus packaged Turkish coffee (some flavored with cardamom) and ibrik coffeepots to brew it in.

This is undoubtedly a great place to find herbs, but my review is focusing on the tea available here which is what makes it a favorite of mine. (I will note, though, that I have found this to be my favorite source of pure kava kava, too.)
The Chinese tea here is excellent, available in bulk. They have excellent quality golden black teas from Yunnan, the best white tea I've ever tasted, and another tea that I have yet to find elsewhere: green pu-erh.
Highest recommendations!

Ten Ren is a wonderful place to find certain types of Chinese teas. Most of their types of tea, such as the oolong, is available in different grades - price depending upon how high of a grade you want. I usually buy the cheapest grade of golden black tea (just $1 for a small package) and even it is great. (If you haven't tried golden black tea, usually from Yunnan, try it, by the way - it's worlds apart from the Lipton-type stuff). My other favorite here is Lapsang Souchong, an excellent tea that tastes strongly of pine smoke, as I've heard it's made by actually burning pine boughs under the tea leaves as they're drying! You can get it in bulk here, as much or as little as you'd like, and they will seal it in its own plastic bag for you to keep it fresh.

Bottleworks is my favorite place to go looking for a good new kind of beer to try. They carry a great selection of domestic microbrews like Dick's from Centralia as well as imported bottles from all over the world: from Ethiopian to Japanese Hitachino Nest (at a much better price than you'll find it at Uwajimaya) to a whole range of Belgian beers, and even notable non-beers like imported ciders and local mead. Plus they have occasional (not quite weekly) beer tastings for just a dollar!

There are two mains to come here, in my opinion:
1. the good selection of German beers on tap, even smoky rauschbiers sometimes
and 2. the fried dill pickle appetizers! it may sound strange but they're great, and part of the appeal is the amazing mustard sauce they come with. and I'm not usually a big fan or fried foods like this OR mustard...

I've had friendly service here, but the food has sometimes been a disappointment. I've ordered things here that were fine, like the udon noodles, but other things have been unacceptable for the price. Maybe we went there on the wrong day, but the rice was poor quality and the special (mushroom teriyaki) was a joke - sliced white mushrooms in some sauce. Because of that I haven't felt like going back, although I've had food here before that was OK.

I first went to Koharu with my uncle 9 years ago right before I went to Japan for the firt time, and I've remembered it ever since, as it was the most authentic I'd had at that point. More recently after a couple unsatisfying attempts to find a good Japanese restaurant in Seattle I went back and was still impressed by the quality of the dinner I had there. For Seattle residents it's unfortunate that you have to go all the way down to Federal Way with it's million shopping chains, but worth checking out if you're passing through the area.

One of the best finds here is the feta, available in bulk for incredibly cheap (a little over $3/lb, i think - 1lb minimum) with rustic-tasting Bulgarian and Romanian varieties available.
The're not open late, and not open on weekends, so you might want to check the times before you go.
