Not a diner 8/31/2005

Anthony's Pier 66 and The Bell Street Diner share a building, but they are actually two different restaurants with different menus. Anthony's is upstairs and the Bell Street Diner is downstairs (note: if you want to go to Anthony's, the hostess station is upstairs. The one just in the door is only for the Bell Street Diner). This review is on the Bell Street Diner. Don't be fooled by the name, this is definitely not a diner. It has the atmosphere of a casual "nice"-type restaurant, offering booths and tables inside, seasonal dining on the deck outside, and a long bar. The menu ranges from the less expensive fish and chips, hamburgers, etc. to a full, pricier seafood menu. It's great if you want to relax in a "nice" restaurant atmosphere without paying the price. I particularly love the ponzu salmon bowls - very generous portions of smoked salmon, jasmine rice, salad and a terrific sesame dressing (ask for extra on the side, it goes well with everything in the bowl). more
