While visiting Whidbey Island recently we went to the Whidbey Island Soap Company in downtown Langley and had a ball spending nearly $300 on some beautiful towels, soaps, lotions and other bath items. I bought 3 sets of very expensive towels that are made from Bamboo and cotton (seemed like a good idea~~I love the idea of using sustainable resources like bamboo) but after only 2 washings the threads are coming out and I am quite displeased with the quality of these towels. I found their email address and wrote to them right away and never got any response. So, then I called them and left them messages and never got any response. Finally, I discovered that they actually have the wrong phone number printed on their bottles. So I finally got a hold of them today and the man who owns the store (he owns it with his mother) told me that he would not take the towels back because we had used them~~excuse me, but how are we supposed to find out if they are good quality or not if we never used them? He told me to call the manufacturer. That is ridiculous. If he cannot even stand behind the towels that he sells, then he deserves a big THUMBS DOWN from me and a terrible rating on Judy's Book because he (not the manufacturer) should be responsible for my satisfaction as a customer. Plus, I wrote to him right away and he claims that his website is working perfectly but that he never got my email. BOO! DON'T SHOP THERE!! RESIST THE TEMPTATION! I wish I would have!....UPDATE!!!! About a month after I published this, David, who owns the store and is so smarmy and condescending actually called Judy's book and lied to them about offering me my money back and Judy's book called me and said "Since the situation is resolved, we are going to go ahead and remove your post." This store owner is such a baby and a bully that he actually got Judy's book to agree to rescind a perfectly accurate review of a business. I pointed out to Judy's Book that I accept my ratings without kicking and screaming (My business has a total of 12 reviews...10 of them 5 stars, 2 of them 4 stars) when I get a 4 star review and feel that it is unjust I don't go crying to Judy's Book. I pointed that out to them, and they reconsidered and allowed my post to stay. Whatever drivel David T. says about the way he handled my towel issue is all wrong. all lies and all b.s., and I have a very high trust score in the JB community and he has squat. By the way...after using his expensive bamboo/cotton towels for about a year they look about as good as the towels we bought from The Bon (sniff...before it became Macy's) we bought 12 years ago when we moved into our new home. So, again, not worth it.

In March, I became aware of the most unique healing and beauty tool I have ever encountered~~and you all know I love to try new beauty and healing forms, especially when they are affordable and painless.
This tool is called Revitalight. It resembles a small shower head, but instead of water coming out of it, different colored lights (that do different things) excite the skin cells and heal everything from wrinkles to swelling, to scars to tendonitis to bruising, skin infections, sinus problems~~you name it.... The possibilities are endless.
Revitalight uses LED (Light Emitting Diodes) technology that was discovered when NASA sent up seedlings to be grown under lights to see if plants could grow or thrive under space conditions. NASA was unhappy (and kept it hush-hush) that when they sent astronauts into space for two weeks when they arrived home their bodies had aged 10 years. When they sent up the plants that were being lit with LED lights, NASA noticed that the astronauts who tended the plants (and were inadvertently exposed to the lights) had aged 2 weeks during the 2 week period of time while the astronauts who didn't tend the plants aged 10 years.
So they devised a way for all the astronauts to be exposed to the light, and guess what? They aged the same amount of time up there as they would have at home. So NASA made personal units of these LED machines fro each astronaut and their aging issues were over. This was in the early 80's.
This translates into a small, handheld device that heals. My biggest testimony is that I got a very deep puncture wound on my left shin (you could actually see the bone through the mush if you cared to look) and I had access to the Revitalight machine for 24 hours after getting the wound and today, it is still tender, but without the treatments I have had (3-4 times since the initial injury) it would be still scabby, purple, green and oozing. It healed so fast because I was able to use the light directly on it right after the injury occurred.
Also, I have used the pen-shaped wand on the little wrinkle between my eyes, right where the nose starts. That particular wrinkle always bothered me, and with just one treatment I can hardly see it. And, David has always been bothered by the bags under his eyes. He has had 2 treatments on just his left eye, and there is a very noticeable difference. We need to do the right eye soon! His left eye looks less puffy underneath, the skin is smoother and the whole eye looks higher than the other.
I used to go to a skin-care professional estician I met and she charged $60 for a 20 minute session with one light which I gladly paid (and I heard later that this was the friends and family deal...she actually charges $120 a session!). But I now have a friend, Linda Wiley, who bought a Revitalight who is charging $80 for 30 minutes and has a splitter cable so she can use two lights at once. So Linda's deal is incredible. The other estician at a spa was basically charging $3.00 a minute. If you look at Linda's charge (with the dual light availability) it boils down to $1.33 a minute. And she is giving first-time people a half-price deal so they can try it out and see for themselves. Here is what she wrote about it:
I am offering an introductory session at half price which is $40.00. I have realized now that I need to let people know up front that it is a 6 treatment package. It really takes several sessions at different levels to heal more completely. Anyway, if people want to pay for the entire package up front, the deal is $440 (which is the first session at half price).
Linda Wiley at Healing Light Arts can be reached at 206/799-9677 and sees clients on Mondays and Fridays.
Here is the website for Revitalight: Revitalight.com
I really urge you to try out this amazing light machine for yourself. Just being around the lights make you feel better. I would love to own one of these incredible machines one day soon. But they are VERY expensive. If you have any kind of injury, scarring, wrinkles or something that just plain hurts, Linda is the person to go see.

When I breifly lived in LA, I went to the original California Pizza Kitchen in Beverly Hills and it was wonderful...boutique pizza, fantastic salads and amazing pasta. What fun to have them build one at Northgate! My favorite is the Chinese Chicken Salad and my husband loves the pizza with roasted chicken and potatoes on it. I like that you can call in your order and then they will bring it out to the car for you at their curbside service. It is very dependable and my favorite place to eat when at Northgate. I don't like going there when it is very crowded, because it is too loud, but it is always dependable and always good. Try to Key Lime Pie. Yum!

I hate spending money on stuff like a new roof, but I must say that they guys at All Season Roofing, Inc. made it pretty painless. Scott and his very nice crew came in, got the job done quickly, charged a fair price (they were the lowest bid we got out of 3) and cleaned up nicely when the work was done. We had a completely new roof put on for about $7,000 (our house is about 14,000 square feet) and when a big tree from our neighbor's yard came down on our roof over the winter, the new roof held up quite nicely. I don't think the old one would have held up as well. They are licensed, bonded and insured, and I am picky, so I was very pleased with their work. A very positive experience

Hanna Ekstrom makes house calls, which is especially helpful if you have a cat who is particularly stressed out by going to the vet. When we MUST go to the vet, we used to go to Cat's Exclusive (please see my review of them) but when we just need an opinion or some wax cleaned our of an ear or something simple like that, we call Hanna Ekstrom. She is an excellent vet. The only small complaint I had about her was that she made me hold my cat when she was trying to draw blood, and that was remedied by me asking her to bring her assistant along the next time because I didn't want to hold my struggling cat. Expect to pay slightly more for a house call than you will for your normal vet, but Hanna is invaluable at times like when your cat is too stressed to take him to the vet or if you need an animal put down and you want to do it at home, she is the person to call. She sees cats, dogs and birds for sure and possibly other animals as well. She doesn't go everywhere, but if you live in her area (Shoreline, Bothell, Kenmore, etc.) give her a call.

Bliss is one of those stores that I love to hate and hate to love. On one hand, they have lovely clothing that is very original, fashionable and hard to find funky-style. On the other hand, if there is a problem, they will not take it back and refund your money under any circumstance. I bought a beautiful sherpa hoodie and when I got it home I noticed yellow spots all over it. (It was white) I called the store to see if they had another in my size (they didn't), could they get one in my size (they couldn't) so why won't you refund my money? I fought and fought with them and they we really quite horrible to me. I called my VISA card and asked them to take off the charge and since it actually says right on the receipt NO REFUNDS (even when it's defective? c'mon, guys) their hands were tied. So I will never shop there again. Nor will I shop at Dream, which is owned by the same people with the same policy right across the street. Bliss, you might want to reconsider your strict policies. This is the land of Nordstrom.

Walking into Peter Norris is walking into the most beautiful garden shop in the world, where if you had enough cash you could come away with everything for your patio you would need to have the loveliest fantasy patio in Seattle. They have fountains, garden pots (thousands of 'em), huge glass vases, candles galore, teak furnishings (tables, chairs, etc.), paintings, gifts and everything else one could imagine. Plus, we were offered a latte upon entering the showroom! Gotta love that! We came away with one table, but plan on saving up for that huge 3-tiered fountian/birdbath and coming back to get it just as soon as we can possibly afford it! They will also stage your home when you go to sell it if you want them to. We actually saw a home in Madrona that they staged and it was fabulous! What a great store! Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.

OK, I know I have complained about the cleanliness of other Chinese food places in town, but at least this little gem is CLEAN! And the food is plentiful, delicious but they only take CASH (much to the consternation of some of my fellow diners) but you only need $13 or so to feed 2 people and have enough left over for lunch the next day. Green Village is family owned and, legend has it, that when one of the children of one of the waiters became sick with leukemia, they closed the restaurant for 6 months so the family could take care of the child. That story touched me immensely. It's tiny and you might have to sit at a table with strangers, but the food rewards and customers are genuinely welcomed upon arrival and genuinely thanked upon leaving. What a treasure in Seattle's International District. I loved it and can't wait until my next visit. It ain't fancy, but it's wonderful.

While the food at T&T is amazing and the fish tanks appear to be clean and in good working order, I liked this restaurant much better (and I am reviewing the Edmonds location) when it was first opened. Now, the windows need cleaning, the upholstry on the chairs need cleaning and the carpet basically needs to be relpaced as it looks like all they've done on it a vacuum nightly. So that makes me curious about how clean the kitchen is, and I don't think I want to know. Unfortunately, the decline of the once-pristine dining room has made me not want to go back, which makes me sad because they have the best fried shrimp with honey and walnuts this side of Bejing and going with a crowd of friends so you can taste many of the excellent dishes and it is also a good value. But if they can't seem to keep the diningroom basically clean, then I guess I don't want to eat there anymore. Which makes me sad, because I really loved it when they first opened.

Alchemy Collections, located at 2029 2nd Ave in Bell Town is a treasure. They have beautifully made, Asian inspired furniture, paintings and home decor items. We bought 2 dressers a chaise lounge and several pillows from them and we found the owners to be very hard working and working hard to please. Michael, who waited on us, when presented with a particular challenge of a table we wanted customized said "Let this become my problem and let me work on it, don't worry about it any more". I was really blown away by that attitude. The store is beautiful and tranquil, replete with a Koi tank. Their handmade furnishings are simple yet beautifully made. Just going to this store to take a break from the craziness of life made me feel better. Treat yourself now!
