I love visiting Cozy. It really is cozy. Besides unique clothing, there are a lot of things for hobbyists. They have items for you to make your own jewelry like semi precious stones, etc. My favorite is the knitting section. They have a wonderful selection of yarns. On some days you'll find people (even children) at the table knitting. Since I'm not such a great knitter I'm fascinated by what they are making. I didn't inquire if they hold classes there which I think would be great. The only thing is a lot of the items are pricey. To me, some are worth it but then some aren't....I guess just a matter of preference.

I really enjoy Shirokiya just because. They have a little of everything there from unique gift items to good but not so costly Japanese food. During sales you can really get fantastic deals. If you have a Hello Kitty fetish or some of the other Japanese characters, you'll find it there. (last that I remember, they did) You can find luggage, purses shoes...basically what a department store would have. After shopping hard you can relax and eat a bowl of tempura udon or any other tasty fare. Then after you're finished, you can go see what other food item you can bring home (remember, no shopping for food when you're hungry). My favorite snacks are the freshly roasted chestnuts!

I usually have a hard time finding a place to get my haircut. Because of their great reputation I went there. They always give me what I want and everyone is very nice too. Whenever I'm in town (I'm in the Mainland now) I'll get a haircut since I don't know when I'll get it cut again. The price does seem high but if you don't get your hair cut too often it really doesn't matter. If you have short hair or if you're a guy, the price may bother you since you'd probably have to go more often. Unless you want to experiment and go looking for that perfect hairdresser, you won't go wrong going to Paul Brown's.

Although this school has management issues, it is a good school. Most of the teachers whom I have known are no longer there. What makes this school good is due too the fact that this is the training center in NC for prospective Montessori teachers. Thus they have the resources to recruit great teachers. The classrooms and campus is great. They have a fenced in area for the younger children and an open field plus more for the older children. The classrooms are conducive to using Montessori methods of teaching. There is also a room with a one way mirror to watch your child without disrupting the class. The only other thing is the limited parking space. Although they have a system for drop off/pick up, if you want to park, go early.

This is a great Montessori program. Not all Montessori programs are created the same. The teachers that are there really believe in the philosophy and teach in that manner. Although from first glance the facilities don't seem that impressive but once you get closer it is a beautiful campus.
There is a nice diversity of cultures that are there too. They teach the children to embrace and respect the differences. They encourage the children to basically grow up with the tools they need to thrive as an individual and as a citizen. They are free thinkers, problem solvers and open to many different experiences. They encourage the children's natural curiosity and facilitate their learning. It's a wonderful school for preschoolers and beyond.

We have always taken our dogs to this veterinary hospital. You can tell the staff love what they are doing and that they love animals. Our dogs' favorite is Dr. Miller. Our beagle loves giving him kisses. When our labrador had to be quarantined, we were worried because he was so used to being with the family. We had him quarantined there where the staff was very sympathetic and sweet to him. It seemed as if he was the only dog there and they took good care of him. Whenever we picked him up from being boarded (or that one time being quarantined) he was bathed, nails trimmed and sported a cool bandanna around his neck. I always feel that they care for our dogs and whenever we needed to leave town without them, we could trust them to give good care to them.

This is a wonderful garden. I love how they have different sections that reflect different climates. When you first walk in through the front entrance there are dozens of different varieties of roses. During the spring when they are in full bloom the fragrance is wonderful. There are different sections like the "stairs" where many a wedding has taken place. It is also a wonderful place to take pictures. There is also a duck pond where kids of all ages love to feed the ducks. They are quite brave and at times will eat from your hands. You can see turtles swimming in the pond and also a blue heron visits there. On warm days, it's great to spread a blanket for a picnic or just lie around reading your favorite book. There is also a wide open grassy area where you can play a casual game of frisbee.
It is not too big but by no means small. They also have guided tours, workshops, classes, a horticulture library, a small gift shop, etc. You can also hold events there at the Doris Duke Hall.
Parking used to be free but you have to pay now to park. But it is worth it!

This is a very nice and very busy library. The main part of the library didn't impress me, content and space but the children's section was great. The books are separated into categories I am not sure how but it somehow makes sense. It has been easy for me to find books for my children. There is a room with a big open space where, if not in use for storytelling time, younger kids can play "quietly" while older siblings look at and for books. The staff is helpful but they seemed to be overwhelmed with the sheer volume of people that come through the library. They also have bags for those borrowing many books. There is a convenient drive thru drop off box but it is located pretty much in front of the entrance so be careful when walking towards entrance from parking lot.

I'm actually a big fan of this mall. Although it is plain, I find that I can shop at almost any of the stores in that mall. Although there are other malls bigger and prettier, I won't frequent most of the shops. Their food court has a nice variety also which almost all of them I enjoy. They have a carousel for kids to enjoy...for a cost of course. But you can find the things you need here. I'm not a big shopper so I enjoy it here because it is not as crowded. They are doing a lot of renovations right now and they plan on making an outdoors area with movie theaters which I hear will be comparable to Southpoint Mall (in terms of design of that particular area they are renovating). My only thing is I wish they had one other department store.

to yourself. It's a great place for gourmet snacks, foods, gifts, etc. After a hard day of buying great gifts, especially NC specialties, for out of town friends and family, sit and relax with a glass of wine, cafe or just eat to your heart's content. If you forget someone you can always order online. I don't really have a favorite item/food since they are all very good. They also have a cooking school and wine tasting which I have not taken or gone to but have heard great things about it.
