The Woodhaven Country Club has a great course that is seldom too crowded. Playing here with my resident Dad was a great experience, with the views of the nearby mountains and the bougainvillea spilling off home patios surrounding the course. The numerous lakes throughout the course provided challenges, and I've contributed my share to the "ball in water" phenomenon. It's a lovely course and beautifully maintained.

This is a great place for watching the games, enjoying the free Happy Hour hors d'oeuvres and the terrific food...from burgers and steaks to some of the best fish & chips in the valley. If not from the desert, with stores, restaurants and service businesses centered around malls, you might not think this place would be as good as it is! The 19th Hole is located in the strip mall with Albertsons, the Dollar Store, etc. However, it is a great place to kick back and meet your friends. They have special competitions with terrific prizes. Love this place!

I'm torn about what rating to give this beauty salon, which has had really high ratings on other local sites. I've only had one experience there when the owner, Alex G., cut my hair. Hearing that this salon is always heavily booked and very expensive, I was a bit surprised to find there were only 3 of us in the whole place that day...the receptionist, Alex G, and myself. It felt a bit strange, but Alex made me feel very comfortable and listened attentively to the goal I had in mind for my hair. Alex was very personable, and I enjoyed the hair cutting experience, leaving with the thought that I got the hair style I requested, even though I found it very expensive. (Ce la vie...for San Francisco!). However, within a few days I realized that my hair wasn't at all manageable as it had been before. All the curls I had said I wanted to retain were gone and a month later have not reappeared after this cut. I am very disappointed as the style isn't workable at all. I emphatically stated I needed a style that would look attractive without using products or styling devices. I had that before the cut, but I do not have it now. Perhaps a single experience, but . . .

Found this site after being offered a 1-month free trial after buying items at a local Family Christian Store. Have really enjoyed it ever since! With most of the mainstream family-oriented movies available as well, it is great fun to try lesser-known titles produced by Christian directors. I really appreciate the viewer's reviews and comments. They have consistently been "right on." I'm come across some really memorable movies: I Am David, Love Comes Softly, etc. These things fly down to me from Santa Rosa, CA, so I'm not sure how fast delivery is to parts further afield. However, customer service is fabulous and turnaround times are great! Definitely an online service to check out for your family's movies!

This Jesuit university provides a small-town feel in the midst of San Francisco. With well-respected programs in nursing, busines and law, you can find good academic challenges here. Do not, however, go looking for a conservative Catholic education here. The Jesuits running the university are of the liberal variety. So if you want a conservative education, this is not the place. However, the faculty and staff actively promote admirable social justice issues and students do become well informed on such world issues. A very diverse international student body and a reknowned campus radio station round out this local school.

While Firestone might be a decent shop for your tire purchases, do not use them for servicing your vehicle...at least for older cars. An elderly friend took her old car to them to investigate a problem. She's over $400 poorer and the problem is still not fixed after multiple visits and multiple changes in what the solution should be. I'd rely on your car dealer or a trusted mechanic to service your vehicle. Let the tire shops stick to that only.

KTLN is a welcome conservative addition to the Bay Area, with this area's liberal obsession. I enjoy many of the programs, which bring often ignored news, music and ideas to my attention. Especially enjoyable are: Life Today with James Robison, The 700 Club, CBN News, Aspiring Women, Total Living, Little House on the Prairie rebroadcasts, and their movie specials. Since I can't get cable in my building, it's refreshing to find some more traditional programs to view. One caveat: since they are not subsidized by all the big major corporations with advertising and the like, they must take advertising where they get it. I don't like the abundance of suspect medical product ads. But I just keep praying for better funding sources and gifts from viewers to allow them to move away from these advertisers in the future.

For kids, the Adventures in Odyssey and Paws & Tales programs are terrific and remind me of the days my little brother and I used to hang out in pj's listening to Radio Mystery Theater. When you're tired of garbage shock radio, get your grounding and traditional values here. On Saturdays at 3pm, I think, they do the Top 20 Christian Music Countdown, which is absolutely terrific! Since it is really difficult to get a Christian music station here, I only wish more of those great tunes could be fit into KALW's schedule. !

This Irish shop offers quite a variety of products from Ireland...from Irish sweaters and other clothing, crystal and souvenir gift items. It is one of the largest Irish gift shops in San Francisco and fills every available space. Located somewhat close to Union Square, the Irish Castle attracts many tourists. One of the few problems I have with its location is that I hate the hassle of finding and paying for expensive downtown parking in San Francisco. But it is worth a trip here to find your favorite Irish treats once in a while.
