I had the pan fried cod with lemon aioli. The fish was good, but the lemon aioli looked and tasted like it consisted of Miracle Whip mixed with lemon juice. My wife had the fried chicken which was very good. We also had soup and a salad, both were fairly average and lacked any depth of flavor.
There is a cozy bar area towards the front of the restaurant with a nice size flat screen TV. It looked like a good alternative to watching the game at a standard sports bar.
I wouldn't go out of my way to go here, but it's a good neighborhood option.

Jak's is a local steakhouse chain with locations also in West Seattle and Issaquah. It's one of my favorite dining options in the area with it's booths and wood paneled decor. In typical Seattle fashion, you'll see everyone from businessmen in ties to families in shorts and t-shirts.
The food is good and the service is friendly. My personal favorites on the menu are the double cut pork chop and the salmon. The portions are hearty and all come with a potato (mashed, baked, or pancakes), salad, and vegetables. One of the unwritten potato options is the "UFO" - a combo of mashed potatoes and the potato pancake. It's a must when you order to ask for the UFO.
Jak's is kid friendly and noisy enough that if your child is loud no one else will notice.

I tried the Brooklyn Grinder for the first time today. It's a casual little sandwich shop in the U-District. They have a nice selection of hot and cold sandwiches at reasonable prices. I tried the Turkey Cajun. My only complaint was that it was a tad on the small side. It's almost a U-District version of the Other Coast Cafe ( http://www.judysbook.com/cities/seattle/Bakeries/28612/p1/The_Other_Coast_Cafe.htm ).

The Market Chef is located one block from the ferry terminal in Friday Harbor. They have a broad selection of made to order sandwiches that are consistently excellent. Their bread is always freshed baked that morning.
Their fresh case offers a variety of prepared salads and main courses available to eat in or take home. These items often represent what is freshly available on the local farms.
My only complaint is that they are closed on weekends.
If you have having an event on island, they also do catering.

If you are looking for a casual Mexican spot that's fast and friendly, Jalisco's is your place. They are a local chain with a number of spots around the city. They serve solid basic Mexican fair. The staff is great with kids and the place was half filled with them the night we were there.
My wife is a longtime fan of their chorizo and eggs.

Local foodie Kathy Casey has recently opened up two Dish D'Lish restaurants in Seattle-Tacoma Airport. One is outside security near concourse B and the other is in side security at the Pacific Marketplace.
For breakfast, lunch or dinner they offer great gourmet options to eat there or take on the plane.

While I'm no expert in floral arrangements, I have seen enough to know that the arrangements that Martha Harris Flowers puts together are not run of the mill. I doubt you will find baby's breath anywhere in their store. I recently ordered some flowers for my wife and a spectacular arrangement was delivered the next day.
Of course, this beauty comes at a price, so expect to pay a premium here.

We've been sending our dog to Bone-A-Fide for over a year now. They have a fantastic five acre facility for the dogs to run and play in. Our dog is always excited when she gets there. When she returns, she has had so much fun she sleeps for a day or two!
While it is a haul from Seattle, to remove the hassle factor they have several people that will pick up and return your dog from Bone-A-Fide.

Last summer I had several companies give me bids for redoing my roof. Even though they said that they would not be the lowest bid, they were. Based upon word of mouth reviews and the estimate, I chose A Better Roofing to do the work. I was very pleased with the efficiency, timeliness, and quality of the job. It's often hard to find service companies that do great work, but I would definitely recommend them.
