My husband and I both use Beaverton Honda. Like most car dealerships, their service department doesn't have the lowest prices in town - but their mechanics were clean, careful and (I believe) honest. They didn't tell me that I needed a bunch of repairs that my former mechanic was trying to sell me. They gave me timeframes for replacing parts that corresponded with the independent my research.

This site definitely exists to sell you their books - which I haven't tried. But you can get lots of useful information without buying anything.

If you're thinking about replacing several plumbing fixtures in your house, it's worth getting a quote from Plumbing Material Supply (PMS). John worked with me to beat competitors prices on the three Toto toilets that I wanted to buy. He was reasonably helpful with making sure that I ordered the right color and height. I say "reasonably" helpful because this isn't a full-service plumbing shop with a big showroom. They sell to the public, but do most of their business with the trade. So if you need full service, go to George Morlan. But if you know what you want, call PMS.
And delivery is free!

When I moved to Portland, I learned about Dr. Hall from a Portland native who has been seeing him since childhood. It was a great recommendation. The technician who cleaned my teeth was very knowledgeable about the science behind dentistry and had some great tips for me. Dr. Hall is definitely a conservative dentist. He doesn't disturb a tooth until it is necessary. They didn't try to convince me to replace all my fillings with a new amalgam, or get my (pretty darn white) teeth whitened like other dentists that I've visited.

I got very reasonable prices and good service from Priba Furniture in North Carolina.
I bought both Baker and Pennsylvania House pieces from them. The custom furniture was delivered exactly as I order it, and every piece was in excellent condition.
Their showroom is only in North Carolina, so you have to know what you want to buy already.
