This store is excellent for selection and savings. The store always has good sales, especially if you have a Kohl's charge card (there are frequent sales where cardholders get to take off anywhere between 20-50% on all purchases). This Kohl's is kept immaculate and the selection in the women's, petites and childrens departments are all fantastic.

Unlike other family fun centers, The Hickory Farms family fun center is an excellent choice for those with younger children (preschoolers, for example). The games that they offer are very simple (like Whack-A-Mole, etc.) and the kids enjoy earning tickets and then cashing them in for prizes. But the best part about Hickory Farms is the play area! Instead of hard plastic, the multi-level play area is made of sturdy mesh that is much easier on little knees and elbows. And since it's mesh, you can see your little ones no matter where they are in the play area. The big slide down from the second level is a HUGE hit with all. I recommend this place very highly!

I have been to a number of CVS stores, both with pharmacies and without, and this was just a terrible store. The aisles were cramped and uninviting. The line at the front of the store was long and didn't seem to move at all the entire time I was in the store. And the woman who was working for the pharmacy was very rude to me. I will not be going back to the CVS in the Clearfield Shopping Center.

This is actually a Super Wal-Mart, since it's got a grocery store in it. The prices and selection here are really great--if I'm in Hanover I will stop there for diapers and groceries because they are even cheaper there than at the Wal-Mart closer to my house. I especially like the design of the check-out registers: it is all very open and they always have plenty of checkers on duty so you don't have to stand in line forever to purchase your items.

The Super K-Mart in Hanover was fun while it lasted, but it closed a couple of years ago. Now there's a Home Depot there. Save yourself the trip.

Value City has great bargains. They buy lots of designer clothing and then re-sell it, ala T.J. Maxx. I love to go in when they are having additional sales (like ann extra 20% off the entire store), which make the savings even more extreme. While the values and selection are pretty good, the physical environment of the store is less than ideal. It's an older building, and as such everything has a slightly dingy feel to it. It's not so much that the store is dirty--it's just not kept up as well as most stores are. Oh, and the restrooms are just a nightmare. Hold it until you get home.

Ever since I met my husband, he's been raving about Kleffel's. He was especially traumatized when the store burned down in the early '90s. He keeps telling me about the little card that was lost--the card that had how many pairs of jeans he had bought and once he got to certain amount, that Kleffel's would give him a free pair of jeans. So this store sure breeds loyalty! When I asked for a pair of Levi's for Christmas this year my husband went to Kleffel's--and they knew exactly what I wanted and hooked him up with the right size (which had to be special ordered). The service and selection here is excellent.

The owners of Forever More Scrapbooks have really put a lot of thought into their store. There is a huge section devoted to paper (mostly 12x12, the hottest size these days) and embellishments, and an additional space devoted to seating scrappers who come for the classes and Saturday "scraps" they offer to the public. The atmosphere is friendly and inviting, and the staff is always willing to lend an eye to any works in progress to let you know what's missing (if anything!). I love, love, love this store and recommend it to everyone who loves crafts.

OK, so I am a sucker for ribs. If you can make ribs even halfway decent, then I'm your patron for life. So the Damon's in State College had me at, "May I take your order?" The cole slaw is great, the fries very good (not smothered in that salty junk that other chain restaurants use to try to cover up their bland fries) and the ribs are excellent. And add to this some fun trivia while you wait (and, yes, usually you're still playing it when you are finished eating) and you've got a good evening out.

Because the Allen Street Grill is packed to capacity nearly every day for lunch and dinner, it's hard to get decent service here. The food is okay, but nothing spectacular. You get the feeling that you're being rushed along with your meal so the next group can have your table, which isn't very appealing. The service is usually terrible. But, ah, the view. If you're upstairs you can see a fantastic view of College Avenue and up the great lawn of Penn State. Go ahead and try it: everyone else does!
