Salvatore's is the kind of Italian restaurant that transports you back to that wonderful land of Italy. To begin with the environment is made with bricks, or made to look like bricks, the kind of bricks you might have seen in Sienna or Assisi. Their is a map of Italy made out of corks, and lovely photos of people and places from all over Italy. The lovely efficient waiter's thick Italian accent is wonderful. His knowledge of the region's wines, his presentation of the menu and evenings specials, make you wish he could just sit down and talk all night! Finally there is the magnificent food! All tasty, beautifully prepared, presented and shared to everyone's satisfaction. Do yourself a favor and transport yourself to Italy by making a special evening out at Salvatore's.

This is why you want to live in the Green Lake/Tangletown neighborhood, all the great restaurants!! Walk to wonderful restaurants like the Blue Water Bistro for their delightful calamari served with a very spicy chipolte dipping sauce. Serve that up with their tasty chopped green salad, which is so plentiful there is enough to share. Enjoy all with a yummy drink and complete the evening with a brisk walk home. Excellent indeed.

Every first Thursday of each month hop on down to Pioneer Square and its many galleries and artist's lofts to experience the fun of moving from place to place and seeing some amazing work by our local artists. What a lot of art you will see! Photography, painting, textiles, glass, found objects, music, people.....it is so amazing and such fun! Most galleries have food and libations to share so eat and drink your way through this visual fantasy and enjoy the buzzing energy of the eclectic crowds!
Many artists open their studios, showrooms and homes during this fun and exciting night. Galleries, like Sam Day's studio & Gallery, are working studios of artists who display not only their own works, but share space with rotating exhibits in the gallery. Their displays are from the heart and are frequently coupled with people whom they feel a connection.
This free monthly Seattle event is unique, fun, and interesting!

Irwin's bakery and coffee house offers a wonderful variety of good wholesome food and a nice cozy environment. They are tucked in the wonderful Wallingford neighborhood right on the bus route on 40th. If you sit outside on their garden patio the view of Lake Union and the surrounding neighborhood is nice and comforting, what a relaxing setting for some yummy soup, homemade pizza, or baked good. Their apple pie tastes just like my grandma's, delicious! The cook there likes to talk to the dough while she works it, she claims it responds in turn by becoming the goodness that it is.

Benjamin Moore paint is by far my favorite. You may pay a little more for this paint but it's quality paint that goes on easy with good pigment through out. Seattle Paint supply carries this line and they have all the supplies and customer care to help make your painting experience a positive one. If local non-profits come calling, they will donate paint from their returned stock.
Miller Paint in Ballard has a nice selection with their color line called "Devine" you can sort through beautiful color combinations that scream out at you to paint your whole house. But I don't like the customer service in this store, they cater a lot to painting contractors and once I got my ordered bumped because they serviced several of these guys ahead of me.
Stay away from paint like Ralph Lauren, which I think is by Glidden, sure it has awesome colors but you end up having to put on 5 coats to make good solid covering.

This great little neighborhood restaurant just moved up a notch on my go to list. The No Smoking ban has made me say "Yes!" to Mona's when girlfriends call instead of "Can't we find some place with no smoking." This is because I love the intimate environment, their wonderful menu and their consistently good cosmopolitans. They have great appetizers that make a perfect meal. I particularly enjoy their unique antipasto, which is more NW than Italian, their tasty spicy chicken empanadas and, my very favorite, mussels cooked in a wonderful broth with crusty bread for dipping. If you haven't been to Mona's in awhile due to the smoke then give it another try.

Nestled up on snowy Crystal Mountain is this little old bar located within walking distance of Crystal's many ski lodges. The Snorting Elk Cellar serves up some awesome pizza and numerous beer options. Once the chair lifts stop running this place starts hopping! Often you will find a line 10 deep to the counter, but they serve you quick! They have a big screen TV and music on weekends. There fresh baked cookies are yummy and very popular with the locals. A friend who lives on the mountain sometimes rides his snowmobile over just for them alone.

Crystal Mountain Hotels are right on the mountain and offer a great way to get on the slopes early to enjoy the fresh uncut powder. They have many hotel accommodations available some of which have kitchens, common areas for playing poker, pools and hottubs. Bring your own breakfast and eat at one of the many lodges or restaurants on the mountain for lunch and dinner. The only problem we have ever encountered is the occasional noisy bathroom fan from other rooms whose lodgers forgot to turn them off.
Crystal Mountain has had a wonderful snow filled year and just extended their 2006 season through April 16th!
