This is store that I actually found much more interesting than I thought I would! I went in here to find something for my mother-in-law, who is a serious bird lover. I really underestimated how much they had here and what my choices would be.
The staff was great and helped me pick out some really nice things, including a bird rest and the proper seed. They know just what to get to attract the kind of bird you want, and are more than willing to help you figure it all out.
Yes, you can pick up the basic outdoor bird supplies at Home Depot or somewhere like that, but this is much more of an enjoyable experience and you'll come away really feeling like you learned something about the Oregon wildlife!

This place is looking a little rickety and it isn't as cheap as it used to be to enjoy the rides, but it still has a certain charm and nostalgia to it. I remember going here as a kid and it is fun to take my kids there now.
The highlight for sure was the roller skating rink. That is a blast from the past and is well worth the money. The carnival games are pretty forgettable, but there are some fun rides that can get you warmed up for Disneyland, such as the spinning teacups and the rollercoaster.
A fun day out for the family - just don't expect "too" much!

Although it was not my local branch, this downtown branch of the Multnomah County library system is what I think of when I think of the Portland library system. The building is an architectural gem and houses an amazing collection of books.
There is so much room to move around, browse, take items to tables to peruse and the new computer system and organized layout makes it all very easy to find what you need.
I enjoy taking my kids there as I remember going there as a child and being in awe of its size.

I just took my wife and daughter to the Nutcracker for my daughter's first professional ballet experience and it was very enjoyable for all of us. The tickets were actually reasonably priced and even though we were a ways back, the view of the stage was great - we had no problems seeing - even my 4 year old!
The performers were very talented - the quality of the dancers, costumes and sets were very nice. I look forward to taking them again next year and making it an annual event.

I appreciated the time the staff took with me, even though they knew I wasn't going to be a high ticket purchaser that day.
A fun place to browse and develop a mental wish list if you are interested in music, especially guitars.

This is a really neat place that is too often out of sight out of mind. I have to remind myself that it's there, but once you visit you wonder how you could forget.
It's a really gorgeous setting - I have been to a couple weddings there, as well as enjoyed their Christmas program. My children loved the lights, music and effects at the Christmas show, although the weather wasn't the best on the night we went. Aim for a cold, clear night!
If you're looking for something you don't normally do in the Portland area, you should check this place out.

I used to go here quite a bit (before all the chain stores hit the area), because it was the only place to find certain things, but I find that I still enjoy going here even now. It has a less corporate feel and I like that it is a local business. They have a really nice selection too - many quality items for camping, hiking, etc. The staff is very helpful also - I think they take their job maybe more seriously than at some larger retail places so they seem to really know their stuff inside and out (literally!)
If you like the outdoors and need some gear, you should check this place out!

I enjoy cooking and this is a great place to browse and shop for Asian ingredients. I seem to always find something new here and come away with some ideas for new things to try.
The fish is great here - we have bought it quite a bit. My kids even enjoy coming here because there are some fun inexpensive treats (rice candy, for example) that they can try each time we visit.
There is much more than food here as well - lots of Asian inspired products and imports. Well worth a visit!

I dont' visit her as much as I did when I shot exclusively with a manual camera, but it is still a great place for camera accessories and repair. It's been around for quite a while and is my first choice of place to visit when I need to get a new lens or accessory for my old Minolta.
The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful and they do know their photography, so I trust their opinions on things.

This branch recently moved up the street and it's new location is great! A huge space with lots of parking - a drive up book return and just a block from the old location.
Inside, it is laid out nicely and definitely has a new feel to it. It's a pleasure to go here because it has an upscale feel to it now and there is plenty of space for reading and browsing.
I have taken my children here several times as well and it has a great kid's section.
