If you're anywhere in the Bay Area and need a bookcase, desk, or other student-type furniture, make a trip to Santa Cruz. Because UCSC is there, they usually have a big selection of student items at very cheap prices. Sometimes you'll find the odd designer dress that someone on the faculty donated, too.
