The Clarence Brown Theatre, operated by the Department of Theatre at the University of Tennessee, is a wonderful way to experience live theater. They produce 5-6 plays a year, and offer a diverse range of plays. The theater itself is not overly large therefore lending a more intimate feel to the peformances. Tickets are reasonably priced and season tickets are available. This is a great way to experience live theater for yourself or get someone you know interested in it.

The Star of Knoxville sets out from Volunteer Landing. Its a wonderful 1-2 hour cruise down the Tennessee River past some beautiful views. They offer sightseeing cruises and also dinner cruises. While the dinner served aboard is average, the views are wonderful and add to the atmosphere. I would recommend an afternoon sightseeing cruise, especially during the peak of fall foliage. Its a fun way to spend an afternoon.

I've been to several different water parks, but this one is definitely one of the prettiest, and one of the best! With the Smokies surrounding the park, it looks less like a concrete jungle, and more like an old watering hole. There are tons of chairs for lounding in the sun, a huge wave pool, a great lazy river (my favorite - lay back and float), along with some great waterslides. The new Bear Mountain Fire Tower is a great water play area. One neat feature for parents is the kid locator wristbands they rent. For a nominal charge ($2 each, I think) you and your kids get a wristband that are all tuned to the same frequency. There are several view screens in the park that let you wave you wristband in front of it and it will show you where in the park the rest of your party is located. This is one of my favorite summer destinations.

My son and I love going to McKay's. It has now moved into a large facility off Papermill Drive and is well laid out. We take our old books we're through with and come back out with more to read. They now have expanded their music area to an upstairs balcony, and there are lots of bargains to be found. The only drawback is I usually spend more than I get for trading in!!

This is a really nice, pet-friendly hotel run by a friendly staff. It sits about midtown in Gatlinburg, easy walking distance to most of the city. The two indoor pools are great and when we checked in with our dog, they had a little treat bag for her. When we ended up staying for an extra night, they were very accommodating and made us a good deal.
