don't get me wrong- the food is tasty, even if the portions are bordering on miniature. and when you come with friends and enjoy slow leisurely eating (because you've eaten an actual meal elsewhere) then this is a good spot. but i'd go to fu rai bo just down the street on sawtelle instead.
loud, but fun.

i don't get that about thai beer- why do the flavors seem so chinese? where's the lemongrass? the ginger? the spices? every dish i tried there (and i'm not a timid eater) tasted like it was watered down thai, at best.
the pad thai is disappointing, and the curries are sad sad things. the broccoli beef was decent, but then again, broccoli beef is more a chinese dish than it would be a thai dish.
go to thai beer if you're not sure if you're in the mood for thai or for chinese, but you know you're leaning more toward chinese....

this place is a great little spot when you're in the mood for some fantastic persian food. my husband always orders the koobideh combo (not on the menu, but you can ask for it) which is one portion of beef koobideh and one portion of chicken koobideh. i've tried that before and find it to be a great dish, but what i really like is the lobia polo. comfort food at its best. the hummus is fresh as is the yoghurt drink.
this is a definite must try. makes my mouth water just thinking about it.

i went after seeing so many glowing reviews of this place. and for the life of me, i have no idea why it would merit ANY kind of accolade. seriously, this place was horrendous. from the at least twenty minute wait for the server to come on by with our first glass of water and thai iced tea, to another half hour before the first appetizer showed up- what the heck???
you probably are thinking, well maybe it was because i went here on a busy weekend afternoon or something. WRONG! i was here on a wednesday, and i was one of two tables (the other table being a solitary diner that already had his meal- goodness knows how long THAT took).
when the food finally arrived it was cold, mediocre, and it pissed me off even more. if they can't even take care of a diner when there's a total of three paying customers in the room, i'm afraid to imagine what their service is like when the place is packed.
needless to say i wouldn't go back if it was the only joint in town.

driving past this taco stand and seeing all the commotion in front you would think they were giving the tacos away. so of course, i had to try it. in general, while they weren't bad tacos, they weren't the epiphanies that alot of my friends have praised them to be. el burrito jr. on hawthorne is so much more superior, in my humble opinion. their tacos have a better depth of flavor and the shells are a lovely crispiness. i don't know. maybe i went on an off day for the kitchen?

their soups and curries are perfect for a rainy or cold day in LA. the delicate balance of ginger and lemongrass cuts through the unctuousness of the wide noodles and rich pieces of duck in the clear broth. their steamed fish with vegetables is also satisfying.
a great secret tucked in a little strip mall in marina del rey.

the satay is killer as is the prik king. i took a client there last month and i'm almost certain that the coconut chicken soup helped seal the deal. the dishes we selected was not too oily, nor bland.
the service was attentive and friendly. i'd definitely go back.

the tofu salad and the grilled squid is also a good light lunch. the dishes are fresh and tasty. the service is good, and i go often enough now that the server knows me as "cold soba". harharharhahrharharharhahr

the coconut seafood soup is so comforting and delicate, as are the great curries (the panang beef is a favorite).
also try to save room for dessert. the mango with sticky rice is fresh, and even the fried bananas with ice cream was surprisingly good (and i'm not a big fan of bananas!)

i was hesitant at first to try such a gimmicky looking sushi bar, but was pleasantly surprised by the decent food and sushi. the boats were great deals, especially for my parents that like teriyaki and tempura. they also had great little appetizers to share. the half priced sushi is not on all the sushi, however. i learned this when i was searching for the unagi and found it on a separate list. however, since we ordered so many appetizers and the boat, we still got all our sushi at half price. very accomodating!
