I had such high hopes for California Roadhouse. It's within walking distance of our house so I imagined walking down there for a nice, casual bite to eat. I've now been there twice and I'm not sure I'd ever go back. The staff is friendly enough and the bar looks nice, but the food is completely mediocre. The menu is extensive, covering everything from BBQ to salads to spaghetti to steaks. The first time I had the Gorgonzola Steak salad. This was made with romaine lettuce, gorgonzola cheese, grilled red onions and slices of grilled steak. The salad does not come with dressing which I found to be odd, who wants to eat dry lettuce? I asked for a side of dressing and it was brought out quickly. The salad was decent. My husband had the beef brisket and he was not so impressed. We went back with my parents and this time I had the Cobb salad. The avocado was inedible. It had a strange gritty texture and tasted really off. There was WAY too much dressing on the salad. My dad had the same thing but asked for dressing on the side. The server brought him a dressed salad with additional dressing on the side. My mom had the steak au poive pasta and it was gross. The menu said the steak was filet but there was no way filet would be that stringy and tough. Her steak was also practically raw. My husband had the spaghetti with italian sausage and meatballs. The italian sausage was awful, it had an odd spongy texture. The pasta sauce tasted like Ragu. I think this restaurant need sot pick a focus and work on improving the quality of their food. They are trying to be a little too much of everything and it is not working. The restaurant is nearly empty every time I walk past it. I hope they figure out how to fix it, the original concept would be a nice addition to downtown.

We live a few blocks from Amici's so we were excited to have a new place to walk to when it opened. We split an Italian sausage pizza and both got food posining from what I can only guess was undercooked sausage. This was several years ago and we till can't bring oursleves to go back to the place even though it is one of the few non-Indian/non-Asian restaurants on Castro Street!

Bloomster's has the most beautiful roses I've ever seen. They are huge, beautiful blossoms on very long stems and their boquets are just to die for beautiful. They offer delivery in most of the South Bay. If you need to send a rose bouquet this is the place to do it. They offer upgraded vases too, not just the plain clear glass ones. My husband used to send me roses from Bloomster's to work and the ALWAYS got comments from my coworkers.

Altos Pediatrics is a small, privately owned practice that is affiliated with El Camino hospital. There are 5 or 6 doctors and 2 nurse practitioners. The entire staff is female. The doctors are seem very mellow and practical. They are very supportive of breastfeeding and AP. They set aside appointments for sick kids every day so if you need to get in quickly you can. An advice nurse is available to call in to. After hours calls are routed to Stanford advice nurses. The only downside is that they close for lunch every day for something like 2 hours. The calls go to an answering service during that time. We really like Dr. Zetes in particular.

Osteria is a charming little Italian restaurant in downtown Palo Alto. The food is good, prices are extremely reasonable (at least for Palo Alto!) and the ambiance is nice. The one thing that stinks is the service. Even if you have reservations you may end up waiting for a table. Service is slow. Try one of the pasta dishes.
