We started using Calderon when we first moved to the neighborhood 5 years ago. My husband picked it because he noticed several cops take their shirts there and he saw that as a good sign :) The family than runs the place is extremely friendly and knows us by name. Prices are very reasonable and they've never lost an item of ours. They also offer minor altaerations, I've had them hem several pairs of pants for me.

I'll admiut this place looks like a dive. It looks the same now as it did in the 70s. But the pizza is divine. It has a thick crust, tangy sauce and plentiful toppings. This is a hearty pizza, 2 slices make a nice meal. In addition to pizza the Boardwalk offers usually bar food like chicken strips and burgers. It is actually very family friendly. They have several booths and the noise level is a little high so noisy kids won't really be disruptive.

I used to love Armadillo Willy's. Then a few years ago they started tinkering with their great menu. The got rid of the tex-mex, then brought it back, then changed to the ranch grill and now they are counter service bbq. While the lower prices are nice, I miss some of the items they had on the old Tex Mex menu. The baby back ribs are a great choice, side choices include cornbread, fried, beans and slaw. Armadillo Willy's also does catering, I had them do my son't first birthday party.

Taqueria La Bamba is located nextdoor to the better known La Costena but I think Taqueria La Bamba wins hands down. The place looks live a complete dive from the outsiden inside you will find a somewhat clean little restaurant with a few table and a counter to order at. You place your order then wait for your number to be called. While you wait you can watch the food being made. At lunch time you'll find a mix of engineers and suits. Dinner time is a little more sketchy.

I'll admit that I love grocery stores, but Draeger's is my absolute favorite. Not only is it a grocery store, it is a card shop, a florist, a gourmet deli, a sushi bar, a butcher shop, a cheese shop, w ine shop and more. The produce is excellent, the salad bar is top notch. They carry everything from Godiva chocolates to Crest. The checkers are always friendly and there are baggers to keep the lines moving quickly. It gets a little crazy on weekends but it is worth it, this store is top notch (sadly with top notch prices).

Nob Hill is a local chain of stores and I do most of my grocery shopping there. The thing that sets Nob Hill apart is the service. The deli will happily give you samples. The butchers will sharper your knives for free. They ALWAYS offer to carry your groceries to your car for you. The checkers unload your cart. It's little things like that that make your shopping experience a little bit more pleasant. Prices are reasonable too, they have every day low prices on many items that are equivalent to Safeway sale prices,

Seriously....gourmet items at bargain prices? Is this for real? Trader Joe's is the real deal and it is a great supplement to a regular grocery store. They don't have a large enough selection for it to be your only grocery store, but it s a nice supplement. THe sell flowers, produce (great prices on prewashed salad mixes!), some meats, lots of cheeses, and standard grocery items like dairy, bread, cereal, etc. A lot of the items are house brands. Don't miss the daffodils they sell every year in March, 10 stems for 99 cents!

I really love Piazza's. I like the idea of shopping at a small, independent grocery store. I love that they have a fabulous deli, cheese section and butcher counter. The produce section is fresh and the staff is friendly. However, they need to make some improvements. They used to have a wonderful hot deli section but they moved it recently to a self-serve heat lamp table. It reminds me of a Manattan deli, all of those crusted over entrees that look dry and all smell the same. It's really quite disgusting, I'm not sure why they put it in. On the other hand the salad bar is nice and includes lots of deli salads. Be sure to try the lemon herb chicken salad from the deli.

Letter Perfect has a great selection of cards, print your own invitations and custom order invitations. They have some unusual brands that you won't see in other Bay Area stores. Prices are a little high, you can probably get better deals online. It's a fun store to browse. They also carry small gift items like calendars, stamps, desk accessories, etc.
