This little gem is tucked in a small strip mall and is easily missed. The place is not fancy, with a very simple decor, but the food is very good, with large portions and reasonable prices. This is not one of those places where you watch your food being cooked at the table; it is traditional table service. The tempura in particular is great! There is a small sushi bar, and a variety of specials. Patrons may want to check local entertainment books, as Shogun often has coupons.

What a great place for kids! This museum, planetarium, and mini-zoo has so much to see and do, kids are consistently entertained. There is also plenty to interest adults, as well. The center runs a variety of exhibits and shows designed to teach about physical sciences, biology, and zoology. Plan to spend a few hours. Also, the center sponsors special events, such as bunny day around Easter, Dinosaur day, and AniMania, which are included with admission. Discount tickets are often available through local entertainment or attractions books.

Arguably, one of the best restaurants in Greensboro! The service is wonderful, and the is very knowledgeable. The menu is excellent, and changes periodically to reflect seasonal themes and ingredients. There are also heart-healthy options noted on the menu, and the wine list is very good. The desserts are delicious, and worth a trip just on their own. The decor is upscale, though casually dressed diners will feel comfortable. Definitely not a kid restaurant! Prices are relatively high, though not unreasonable, and for many appetizers and entrรฉes, portions are quite large.

One of the oldest vet services in High Point, Dr. Mellinger at Northwood Animal Hospital provides complete care for small animals. Appointments are easy to get, and prices for basic services are comparable to others in the area. Boarding and grooming services are also available, and usually a call in the morning will get your pet in for bathing that day. Dr. Mellinger clearly cares about the animals, and is also good at handling some of his more "difficult" patients. A nice touch is the tree carving of various animals out front.

This small museum chronicles the history of High Point and surrounding areas, with lots of photographs and historical documents. There are also a couple of historical building, including the one room Hoggart House, which was rebuilt after recently being struck by lightning. The collection is more geared to adults; young children will likely become bored fairly quickly, but do seem to enjoy the full-size bus cab in one display. The museum offers several interesting programs throughout the year, such as pioneer re-enactments, pioneer cooking demonstrations, and craft activities. These offerings tend to be enjoyed by both adults and children, as they are often "hands-on" with historical interpreters. Admission is free, as are most events.

This public library is first-rate, with an excellent collection. New release books are fairly limited, but a reservation system allows patrons to get these in a relatively timely manner. The video and books-on-tape collections are good, but the DVD and books-on-CD collections are very limited. There is a great collection of children's books. Computer and internet access are available, as are reference staff to help with questions and searches. The children's programs are excellent. The library frequently offers craft times, story times, plays, and shows for children, and there is an extensive series of summer programs. The only problem is that these programs tend to fill up fast, and you have to register for many of them in person. All materials and activities are free.

This practice has four physicians, all with local hospital privileges. All physicians seem to have good rapport with patients, and the offices are fairly new. Each physician has his or her own nurses, so you see the same people each time. In addition, it seems that the doctors are concerned with more than just gynecological issues, asking questions about diet, exercise, and other lifestyle factors. Booking routine appointments must be done well in advance, but emergency appointments are handled quickly, and certain times are reserved for obstetrics patients, so there is no difficulty getting prenatal appointments. In addition, all obstetrics patients are rotated through all the physicians during prenatal appointments, so you meet all the doctors and are ready for whoever is on call when it come time to deliver. Overall, the care provided is excellent.

The food here is generally good, though not great. Service often is not particularly good, with sometimes long waits to get beverage refills or the check. While the food seems pretty authentic, the limited English of some of the wait staff sometimes creates difficulty in ordering for non-Spanish speakers. Decor is simple and casual.

Tucked away on a side street and with a less than appetizing name, Big Ed's nonetheless has some of the best chicken wings you can get. The menu is very simple: chicken wings, chicken platters, burgers, and hot dogs. Prices are reasonable, but Big Ed's does not take credit or debit cards, so bring cash. The place is small, but meticulously clean with interesting decor. The wait staff is very friendly, and the place does seem to attract a crowd of not-scary bikers on the weekend. There is also seating on a small outdoor porch, but you look over the parking lot, so there is no view to speak of.
