i didn't think the restaurant itself was anything special - wood booths, good enough service, etc. the food was good but not the best pizza i've had out here, the breadsticks were hot and fresh and came with a dipping sauce that was more salad dressing than breadstick sauce but it was ok.
the best thing about zeek's is that it's a good place to go if you have kids, especially ones who get loud. it's a loud place and just about everyone there had at least one kid. they had covered straw cups for the littler ones, which i *really* appreciate (i can't count how many times a waitperson has put a full glass of ice water in front of my 19-month old!) and if you ask the waitperson, they'll give the kids a chunk of pizza dough to play with. talk about a great way to occupy the little ones while you are waiting for you food!
i'd go back but only with the kids - if it's just me and hubby, i'll stick to pagliacci's or vincenzo's.

met some relatives today for breakfast in issaquah. i'll start by saying that if i'm meeting someone for breakfast, it's usually either more of a brunch or it's a lat breakfast or it's closer to home, or some combo of the above. an 8:30 breakfast on the east side on memorial day was not something to put me in my happy place, so i was a bit bitter about the schlep.
any iota of unhappy feeling left my body the second we walked into the restaurant. it's pleasing to the eye. it's got that down-home feeling without feeling like a reject from a laura ashley makeover attempt. the service is wonderfully friendly, the menu extensive, and the food - the food! oh my, i thought i was going to lick my plate. how could a simple cheddar and bacon scramble taste SO good? i don't know how but it sure did. the home fries were big chunks of potatoes with a nice set of seasonings on top, the most prevelant being rosemary. even the toast was yummy.
i can't imagine anyone not being happy with their meal at julia's.

the menu changes daily and is written on a chalkboard. it's hard to see from some tables and doesn't really describe what's in the different dishes. hubby and i ordered one dish that looked vegetarian but ended up having all sorts of meats and fishes in there. but they were very accommodating when they realized he was a veggie and they made up a different dish for us.
the fish i had was pretty great, nothing to complain about there. hubby had cold soup and enjoyed it.
it took a while to get the food and the menu is a bit limited, but it's a pretty decent place. worth trying? sure.

i swear, every time i go to bricco it gets better. their wine selection is still great and jason (their wine guy) *really* knows his stuff. i told him what i had last time and he knew just what to have me try this time around. and it was great.
their cheeses are spectacular; i think the drunken goat is still my favorite. we like to have jason pick out the cheese for us and so far he's never disappointed.
but wait, what's this i see on the dessert menu? a chocolate sampler? and a cooked pears with marscapone? hubby had the chocolate sampler which included a nutella panini and spicy chili chocolate. can you say 'oh my!'? i had the pear thingy which was cooked and drizzled in honey and something else and served with a dollop of marscapone and it was outrageous! i think i'll go back again for our next date nite.

several years ago if you told me i'd be a wnba/seattle storm fan, i would have laughed in your face. now i pass time during the fall, winter and spring by counting the days until the season begins, which it did yesterday!
if you haven't been to a game but you like basketball or sports or want to do something fun and inexpensive or want to show kids what *real* teamwork looks like, then i can't recommend the Storm games enough.
to start with, you can get lower bowl seats for $10. the games are very family-oriented and kid-friendly. the players often sign autographs after warm-ups. etc.
but the best part is that you will watch 40 minutes of pure athleticism by women who play because they love the game. they don't get paid millions of dollars. they don't have private jets to take them on their road trips. they don't hog the ball and choke their coaches. they play a wonderfully pure form of basketball and will give up a basket for an assist more times than you can count.
i'm a former hard-core nba fan who will NOT go to an nba game anymore but have missed only 2 wnba games in the past 5 years - once for my honeymoon and once for the birth of my little dude.
come check out the 2004 championship team. schedule, team, etc. info is at http://www.wnba.com/storm/. and if you want to speak w/a ticket rep, send me mail and i'll hook you up with mine.

when hubby and i were dating he used to send me flowers from bear creek florist and they did a superb job. http://www.bearcreekflorist.com/ they are located in redmond and what i remember most are their roses - big, beautiful, fragrant and just amazingly arranged. and i swear the first dozen roses he sent me lasted for 2 weeks. he said their prices are average and that they are very nice to work with.

i've heard a lot of mixed about blue c sushi but every time i've been there it's been either good or great. and hubby-the-vegetarian LOVES their selection. usually we sit down at a conveyor belt sushi place and i start yanking plates off the belt while he makes sculptures with the wasabi, waiting for the moment when a tamago might slide by. at blue c it's the opposite - *i* sit there waiting for something i like to come by while he piles plates of fried tofu rolls, veggie rolls, spicy sesame noodles, edamame, veggie tempura and tamago in front of him.
don't get me wrong - i get my fill of their great sushi too. especially their melt-in-your-mouth albacore. mmmmm. i wish the prices were lower but the cost is fair.
i also like how you can press a button at your seat and a waitstaff will come over to help you. no need to try and catch the chef's attention if you need anything.
we'll be back

i feel awkward reviewing children's hospital's e/r in a not-so-favorable light, but i'm saying what i've seen based on my experience with them.
in a nutshell, i won't go there again unless it's something that's really child-specific and that i don't think any other hospital can adequately handle. for stitches, dislocations, ear infections, high fevers, etc. i'm sticking to swedish.
whenever i've been to children's, the wait has been SO long, even with an empty waiting area. the check-in process takes a long time and is usually done by someone on the surly side.
more importantly, last summer my baby was misdiagnosed so badly that the doc (at children's) who saw him 2 days later for the same ailment was almost pissed, asking where he was seen previously. and she was shocked to find out that he was seen right there at children's.
i know that there's triage and that they'll take the really sick kids first - that's a given. but the last few times i've had to take one of my kids there, the wait was really really long for something that took about 8 seconds to fix. and when i asked when we'd be seen, the staff was dismissive and wouldn't give us an answer.

morfey's cake shoppe is the only place i'll get a cake. i've used them for everything from a baby shower for a very elegant, rich, powerful, etc. woman to a 3-year old's birthday party and the one thing that's been steady? never a leftover piece!
they are nice to work with but more important is that their cakes are beautiful and delicious. and very fairly priced, too. if you call and make an appointment you can go in for a tasting, browse the shop, etc.
now i'm hungry :-)

i stumbled into studio porter jensen by accident - i was looking for a cool silver ring at 'something silver' in u village and ended up a door or 2 down at porter jensen. not only do they have lovely merchandise but their customer service is excellent, as is their craftsmanship.
i bought a ring from them (i worked with elisha) and they did a perfect job resizing it. i later brought them a sapphire stone and had them set it into a gold ring for my mom for her 60th birthday. i was practically speechless when i saw the result - it looked even better than i'd imagined! and their prices are extremely reasonable, too. http://www.porterjensen.com/ is their site, and they've been around for a while.
happy shopping
