they always delivered on time and as expected, but they usually had at least one bad piece of produce in the bunch, and it was a pretty boring mix of stuff. too much of it went to waste in our house so we stopped using them.

jalisco's has good guac, i'll give them that. and your food will be on your table within minutes, even on a busy night. this is a great place to go if you have diners who are both meat eaters and vegetarians, spicy and non-spicy, hungry, and don't want to spend a fortune. PERFECT place to go before you hit any game at key arena, except they'll be crowded.

i like to shop at communique. for such a smallish store they have a nice selection, and they have a few train tables set up near the entrance to keep the little dudes busy while we shop. it's set up well and easy to find what you are looking for. and their gift-wrapping is fabulous! i swear they have turned making ribbon bunches into an art form.
but their prices are steep - you can find a lot of the same stuff at top ten toys for less. and the sales help are usually not much help. i've had to pull a salesperson away from a game of computer solitaire for help more than once. they hardly ever offer to help you, but when you do ask for help, they know their stuff.

i knew this place was good when hubby, who hasn't eaten meat in almost 20 years, sent me there. A & J Meats is simply the best place to buy meat, whether it's a pre-marinated steak for the grill or sliced roast turkey. they don't use preservatives, the food is fresh, the people who work there know all about the meats they sell, and the prices are very fair.
my only gripe with them, if you can call it that, is that they rarely have cooked corned beef. they had it once and it was the best corned beef i'd had since moving here from nyc, so that was a big tease!
they have a bunch of recipes printed up and are always willing to discuss the best ways to cook certain meats. just an all-around great place.

the people who work there are very nice but not what i'd call super-attentive to the customers. their food is decent but not great, and they use WAY too much cheese. and the portions are enormous - their chicken parmesan is enough for 3 meals for me. a better example of how big their portions are is this...i couldn't even finish 1/2 of my appetizer that i ordered as a meal! yikes. i love to eat but it gets obscene.
they do have an outdoor deck and pretty good pizza, so all is not lost. i'd go back but only on a nice summer nite.

when i first moved to seattle (10 years ago) i tried the polyclinic and didn't really like it. it felt cold, impersonal, etc. then a few years ago i needed to get a new internist so i asked my pediatrician (who i trust with any and all things medical) and he highly recommended dr. elton lee (m.d. and m.p.h. from stanford) at the polyclinic. i've been quite happy with him, and here's a perfect example of why:
i hurt my back. badly. no idea how. i called this morning, they got me in to see him at 2:00 today. i waited in the check-in line for maybe 3 minutes, then went over to dr. lee's area. i sat down in the waiting area, and literally 5 seconds later was called in. the nurse got my stats and then the doc was in the room within 2 minutes. after the exam he had me walk over to x-ray, where i again sat for seconds before getting called in. after the x-rays were completed i walked back to dr. lee's area and the results were already there waiting for me. he went over them with me, gave me my stretching orders and scrip, and had me on my way.
i was in the building for 50 minutes. total. incredible.

if you've never had ethiopian food, you are in for a fun surprise. you eat everything with your hands! well, sort of. the food is served in a big basket lined with injira - a spongey bread. it's family-style so several orders will come on one plate (make sure you know what the others are ordering!) you'll also get your own (large) piece of injira and to eat you just rip off a piece of bread, scoop and eat. voila!
the food is very tasty and varied enough for any diners. lots of veggie dishes, lots of beef. plenty of chicken and more. mild or spicy. and LOTS of fun.

especially when you're at an actual benihana restaurant!
great for large-ish groups but also perfect for just a few diners - they will always fill up your table if they can. the food prep is a show and if you have a really talented chef, you'll be dazzled. they cook it all right there in front of you, from the scrambled egg that goes into the fried rice to the last bit of meat. and in all my years of eating at benihana or benihana-style restaurants, i've never had a bad meal. the food is great, good for you, includes lots of veggies, and is just a really fun dining experience.

gordon biersch is definitely my favorite place to get a big, giant salad. you can find their entire lunch menu at http://www.gordonbiersch.com/resources/pdf/GB-SE_Lunch.pdf (what did we do before the web? my gawd). i've never ever been able to finish my favorite salad there - the hummus and goat cheese salad. i once even ordered it without any of the cheeses and i *still* only got about 1/2-way through. it comes with flatbread and you can add chicken and/or salmon for just an extra buck or 2.
go ahead, order it. i dare you!

i used to go to the beach cafe in kirkland all the time, and i could never finish a full salad. my fave was the one with (my mouth is watering just thinking about it) shrimp - tons of shrimp! and a full 1/2 avacado, always fresh. and lots of blue cheese and all sorts of other goodies, too.
they have a full bar there and a killer deck. even if it's not nice enough to sit outside, you'll still get a view from almost any seat in the house.
