Don't Bother

Monday, October 31, 2005
The atmosphere is not bad if you want a place quiet enough that will let you have a conversation. 1st look at the menu and it is somewhat overpriced, but you manage to find two dishes that sound enticing, just in time to hear the waitress say they are out of exactly those two dishes. The waitress offers poor service with an attitude to match. The food is ok but definitely could be better. Time for the check... 20% gratuity has been added to your bill, for a party of 4 with no warning, either orally or written. When we ask about it, the waitress states that on occasions, they agree to do that between the manager and the waiter/waitress, offering us the possibility to talk to the manager, but subsequently hesitating to call him upon request. When the young manager comes, he explains that, on occassions, when the patrons are believed not to be from the US, a 20% gratuity is included on their bills, as they assume that they don't know how the system works in New York! Then he proceeds to tell us that in the 1 month he has been working there only 2 people complained about it! Nothing to add, they will not count with our patronage in the future. :(
