this place isn't too bad for a mall store. they've got all the mainstream stuff that you would expect to find, some role playing game equipment and dice, and a few hard to find comics that are usually not available in stores trying to compete with the gap and banana republic crowd. that said, the store itself is laid out poorly and is pretty hard to browse - if you know what you want, great, but you're never going to stumble on the next great thing looking here. every time i go in there i get the sense that i'm the only girl that's ever set foot there, which is also a little off-putting.

there's no better place to stay when visiting princeton than this old-school fairly luxe hotel. it's not a five star place by any means, but the staff is nice and accomodating, the hotel itself is enormous (i stayed here with an entire wedding once), and the variety of rooms available will suit any potential combination of people. they have a couple of nice restaurants and a fun bar that's open pretty late into the night. best of all, they are located in the middle of princeton, so everything is within walking distance.

if you're looking for a unique item of clothing, this is quite literally the place for you - frequently, the clothes they have are one of a kind to the point of not having different sizes to choose from. but if it fits, you know you will never run accross anyone else wearing anything even remotely similar. the same goes for their cool selection of shoes, jewelry, and other accessories, all of which have been chosen with the goal of uniqueness in mind. a great little resource for the daring and the fashion-forward.

this is THE place for hard core, birkenstock-wearing, dreadlock-cultivating, homeopathic medicine-reliant hippies, as well as anyone else who dreams of having that lifestyle, or at least that fashion style. the store sells not only natural foods (despite its name) but also flower-child clothing and jewelry that will disguise the most staunch yuppie and make her look like the least motivated hippie relic. the staff is super nice, and lest i sounds like i'm making fun of the place, i'm really not - i love it!

this store sells the strange designs of the eponymous designer, whose penchant for loud colors and giant floral prints overshadows whatever structural good points the clothes and household linens might otherwise be said to have. the aesthetic is a kind of farmer-chic crossed with overgrown english garden, and generally fails on all fronts. the only redeemable stuff are the children's clothes, and that's only because anything for babies is cute, no matter how actually ugly.

most often, this tends to be a run-of-the-mill small town "art" gallery, with inane bronze sculptures of women riding dolphins and boring landscapes and still lifes. however, it will always have a soft spot in my heart because once i saw here the most amazing painting that i have ever come accross - an odd borderline surrealist figure study of a woman in a period/clown costume. i'm still kicking myself that i didn't buy it (only $800 or so!). anyway, it's a small gallery so no reason not to stop by if you're in town.

this is the best independent jewelry store around the philadelphia area. they feature the work of local and national artists, and the simple displays and friendly salespeople are really an asset to the place. i wish some of the work was less expensive, but in this case you really do get what you pay for - amazing, unusual necklaces, earrings, and bracelets in all sorts of metals with exquisite details. the buyer for this place has a fantastic eye for beauty.

this place is so much emotionally tied to the lives of seniors on princeton campus that it's become an institution - this is where the vast majority of them get their senior theses bound, and at the end of the school year all you see are nervous, panicky twenty-year-olds standing around arguing with the cashiers that they needed that binding put in place yesterday. besides that time, this is a very nice independent print and copy shop. the staff is at times uncooperative, but that is because they also handle almost all the reproductive needs of the various princeton seminars and are usually super busy. but quality is high.

this is the place to go when you live on campus, don't have a car, but still want something a little above and beyond the ordinary for your winter formals date. they do lovely boutenniers, and put together arrangements that aren't dripping with ferns and baby's breath. the staff is quite cordial and everything you order in advance is always ready if not ahead of schedule, then certainly on time. this was always my favorite place to get flowers when my mom came to visit.

this store is nothing special, but it's reasonably priced and has the normal selection that a generic florist would be expected to. beware major holidays - like all flower stores, this one hikes the price of roses on valentine's day to ridiculous levels (but ones on a par with the rest of the community), and don't let them figure out the arrangements themselves if you can help it - they are rather addicted to baby's breath and other ugly fillers.
