I go to City People's on Madison Avenue about 3-4 times per year when I have small gardening needs that don't require a trip to a big nursery like Wells Medina. Generally City People's has what I'm looking for offering a good (not great) selection. I like the indoor part of the store of gift items. It's an unexpected but great place to pick up a card or housewarming gift. The staff at City People's is just ok. I tend to need some guidance when I'm looking for something new to spruce up our flower pots and it's hard to get anyone's attention and when you do I find that they aren't really interested in making recommendations. They are there more to answer specific questions or point you in the direction of the item in question. City People's is great for convenience but for selection and often better price, I recommend some of the nearby nurseries.

I was relatively surprised to find candlelight and white linen at the Seattle restaurant, Fork. The new addition to Capitol Hill was just a bit fancier than most of the other new hot spots I've been recently. I had to question my decision to wear jeans even.
But that aside, Fork has a warm albeit fancy vibe that I was happy I tried. The food matched the atmophere with sophisticated presentation. We started with the Fork pasta with cauliflower cream (interesting) which I thought was just ok. Somewhat bland. I ordered the Halibut and my friend the Scallops which she really enjoyed. The halibut itself was delicious but was prepared in a strange sauce that overwhelmingly tasted like olive oil. Too much in my opinion. We ended the meal with the handmade chocolates plate which was a perfect thing to share.
The service was mediocre. While the restaurant was new, our server wasn't quite sure what half the items on the menu were. It seems like the kitchen at Fork could do a better job at serving their staff so that they are more educated and can make honest recommendations.
Overall, I'll limit my rating of Fork to 3 stars with the caveat that I'll be back to try other items and hope they'll have worked out some of the kinks in the kitchen and with the staff.

Tacos Guaymas in Fremont is a great place to grab lunch on a sunny day. I enjoyed a Fish burrito (super-which includes both sour cream and guacamole) and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the fish was not fried and was very fresh. The portions at Tacos Guaymas are huge as well (two could easily share a burrito, especially with a few chips and salsa). The bonus is that there is outdoor seating so on a sunny day such as today, Tacos Guaymas is a great destination for mexican.

I had yet another pleasing experience at Nishino sushi on Madison. The quality of the fish is always impeccable with maguro that melts in your mouth. But I think what sets Nishino apart from my other Seattle sushi favorites is the experience. I love sitting at the sushi bar here because you often get introduced to house specials or things that are not printed on the menu. My husband ordered Ika sushi and the sushi chef recommended a baby squid special instead that was delicious. Our other favorites for the night were: Aji (spanish makeral), Ume Shiso and soft shell crab roll (wrapped in a delicate cucumber and flash fried). If you can stomach the bill $110-including a 15oz cold sake-and I wouldn't say we ordered exorbitantly, I think Nishino is not to be missed for sushi lovers.

I tried out a new stylist at Margi David and had a great experience. I have pretty basic straight hair and needed a cut and also wanted to experiment with a little color-which can be scary. Marissa was great. She walked me through the whole process, explained how it was all going to work and even educated me on how to treat my hair after it was all over. And the bill-$118 with tip. That's very cheap in my opinion for a color and cut.
The only thing Marissa could have done better would be to make recommendations on my cut or color. She pretty much just responded to what I thought I wanted but it would have been great to hear more of her opinion. After all, she's the expert right?

Moxie, the new addition to Queen Anne-does not dissapoint. I wanted to try almost everything on the menu at this small new restaurant. Between 4 we did manage to try the blue cheese flan (not to be missed) with asian pears, the duck confit (good but not great) and mussels (superb) as well as monkfish wrapped in prosciutto (shouldn't everthing be wrapped in prosciutto?), pork tenderloin (excellent), halibut special and whole trout (both of these were just ok). We managed to save room for dessert and had the tiramisu (not my favorite) and the chocolate cake (delicious). Decor was modern and warm and service was great. Entrees were about $18-$22 which I thought were worth every penny. I think Moxie gives nearby Crow a run for the money.
Moxie also offers a pork sandwich and lamburger for around $12 so it's a good place to visit before or after an event at the key area when time is tight.

I had never even heard of Chiso sushi in Fremont until a friend told me about it recently but was pleasantly surprised to find it met all of my sushi needs. I dined there for lunch only but the place was packed (a sign of a good place usually). We ordered mostly nigiri and the fish was very fresh and portions were appropriate. The miso had the right flavor with the right amount of tofu and green onions. The service was attentive and friendly and the atmosphere was very comfortable, cozy even with candles on each table and cushions to soften the wooden benches against the wall. I'll be back to Chiso and think it's competitive with all the best sushi spots in Seattle.

For music afficionados and casual music fans, the triple door delivers. I recently visited the venue for the second time and would recommend it for a great night out in Seattle.
The Triple Door is a unique music venue catered by Wild Ginger (the quintessential Seattle restaurant). In the main area of the venue, you can order drinks or food all throughout the show. This go round we reserved a private suite which was about $500 for 6 people including appetizers, entrees, several desserts and several bottles of wine. The fee also included the use of the room, and of course the show. Even if the music wasn't entertaining (which it was-Gomez), we would have had a great time in the privacy of our area with a server that you could request by the push of a button.
If you're looking for a night out on the town in Seattle with friends or family, you should consider the Triple Door.

We dined at Del Frisco's on a recent trip to Vegas and enjoyed a carnivore's dream feast at the old school steak joint located just off the vegas strip (close to the hard rock hotel). We started off the meal with drinks at the bar and the prices nearly made me spill my drink--$16-$18 martini's. Granted they were large drinks-but that's a big price to pay for a martini.
We moved into a private room for dinner which we were able to reserve for no extra charge with a party of 12. We started off the meal with the seafood sampler (shrimp cocktail, oysters and crabcakes). All were delicious. We then moved on to salads. I ordered the caesar and split it with a friend and thought that the flavor of the dressing was good but too heavy. Next was the beef course. They don't have a huge menu at Del Frisco's-about 6-7 meat options but they are all usda flavorful cuts. I don't have one negative comment on the qualty. I ordered the strip steak which is somewhere in between a rib eye and a filet in terms of flavor and fat content. It was great and cooked to perfection. We ordered the typical sides, potatoes au gratin, creamed spinach and asparagus just to pack on a few extra calories.
As for atmosphere, Del Frisco's looks like a place Tony Soprano would frequent in Northern Jersey. There are no windows, there's a cigar room and the male/female split was about 80/20.
For a bachelor party (assuming this is all males), or for serious steak eaters that care solely about the cut of beef, Del Frisco's is a solid choice. As for me, I weigh the environment a little more heavily so will likely opt for a steak house on the strip or in a hotel next go round.

Barca is a pretty good spot although a bit north of downtown in Capitol hill. They have a good scene though. Drinks are good and there are loads of singles there which may appeal to your friend.
