When we are going to buy a lot of wine or are looking for something special, Esquin is a great place to go. Their staff is very informed and can even help you with food pairings. I've gone in with a menu and they've walked me through the best wines for my courses. When I wanted more education on port, a salesperson gave me a great deal of info about my options and I never felt like he was trying to upsell me with the most expensive bottle. Also, they are always having great deals and wine tasting events which you can find out about in their newsletter so I recommend checking it out.

Dinette is relatively new addition to Capitol Hill. Located on Olive across from redline and a block south of Starbucks, the new eatery is a worth a visit.
The menu is relatively small with only starters and small plates printed and just a handful of entrees which are written on a chalk board. Starters include salads, toasts (we tried the prosciutto) and several variations of gnocci. The butter lettuce salad was simple but delicious and the gnocci with pulled pork (I think) was a bit bland.
For entrees we tried the lamb and pork tenderloin which were both good but didn't wow any of us. The wine list was priced moderately and decor was casual reminding me of a french cafe.
All in all, a good addition to a neighborhood with few great eats.

My tried and true Indian restaurant is India Express on Broadway but recently they lost their liquor license and because we were in need of a cocktail, we headed over to Chutney's on 15th. We've avoided this place because they claim to be "fine dining" Indian and good Indian IMHO doesn't require a white tablecloth. But we went and here are my thoughts:
1. Food was tasty. I ordered my usual: Chicken Tikka Masala and Alu Gobi. Both were great and the Tikka Masala sauce was exceptionally creamy-definitely 5 stars.
2. Service. 2 stars here. While very polite and friendly, they mixed up our friend's order and forgot our appetizer. They did make up for it with free dessert but it was a little too late
3. Ambiance: certainly nicer than India Express (which is not hard to beat) but not necessarily an important factor for me for eating Indian
4. Price: nearly double the cost of India Express and not significantly better. Chicken Tikka Masala was about $16 here for reference.
If you're looking for a fancier Indian establishment check it out, but I'd still recommend India Express just down the road.

Hi,
If it's a problem with the gas hook-up then I believe you'll want to call a plumber. I just had gas hooked up to our new range (we used to have electric and now have gas) and called Fox plumbing to do the work. We called on a Friday and they were able to come out, asses the job and do the work the following Tuesday. It's not cheap (as plumbing never is). It cost $545 for just 3 hours of work including parts (about $25) labor and taxes so be prepared...good luck!

The Judy's Book review of Tutta Bella in Wallingford that said it was "Via Tribunali without the wait or the attitude" was spot on. Only I might add, "along with many families and kids". I was surprised to find such a large, open kid-friendly restaurant in the middle of the city. I haven't seen a lot of these (or maybe they just aren't on my radar since I don't have children). In any event, Tutta Bella is a great spot for those with or without families. They don't take reservations but you can call ahead to get your name on a list. However the wait wasn't long--20 minutes for a party of 8 on a Friday night at prime time. Service was fast--almost too fast. 5 minutes at most for the salads and pizzas we ordered. They were delicious so we didn't mind but next time I'd space things out and order when we were hungry and not before. Our favoite pizzas were the lasagna and the special prosciutto and asparagus.

I got a flat tire this week and learned that in some cases, the experience doesn't have to be all bad.
I was fortunate enough to discover the flat once I was already parked in my work parking lot--and didn't do any damage to the rim either. So I gave AAA a call and they were there within 1 hour as promised and my spare was put on in 15 minutes. Then I phoned Discount tires (thanks Judy's Book for all the advice)in Bellevue and they let me know that they could repair my tire and put it back on if we arrived before 6pm. I arrived at 5:58pm and they were happy to help me out. I was expecting to have to leave the car overnight but they quickly made the fix and the charge was $0! I will definitely be taking my business there when I need new tires. All in all this was a pretty pleasant experience as far as flat tires go.

On a recent trip to Whistler my husband and I ate at Val d'Isere restaurant located in the heart of Whistler village. Our first choice was Araxi but they were closed for renovations. We were not disappointed by our back up option though. The restaurant appears very casual keeping with the french country theme of tiled floors and small cafe tables. Because of the time of year, they were running many specials at great prices. We chose to order the 3-course special and our favorites were the pate, seafood mixed grill (halibut, mussels and salmon with a roasted red pepper puree) Desserts were just ok. The best part of the experience was that our server was also a licensed sommelier. We weren't sure what wine to order given our varied course selection so we asked him to pair together wines with each course. He did a great job explaining what he selected and why. Overall, a great experience at Val d'Isere and would recommend it for your next trip to Whistler.

I have ordered the fried chicken every single time I've been. Lucky for me my friends tend to branch out so I've been able to sample a few other things but I've never strayed from that perfect fried chicken, collared greens and mashed potato combo. Other favorites if you really want to know are the mac and cheese and the gumbo. The caesar is great to start as well as the crabcakes.
It's impossible to save room because the portions are so big but despite how you may be feeling after dinner, you must order dessert. These change seasonally but right now they have my absolute favorite which is the strawberry shortcake. It's important to note that desserts are monstrous. Not big. Huge. 1 Dessert is more than enough for 4 and easily could please 6.
If you haven't been to Kingfish cafe, you must go. Note: they don't take reservations for parties less than 6 but recently I was able to call and get my name on the wait list via the phone. It's a good way to speed up the wait.

Ok, so it was mother's day but a 1.5 hour wait in between apps and the entree is a little extreme. I visited the big fat fish company in bellingham this weekend. They had a nice sushi selection which we started out with. Fresh rolls and decent prices. The entrees were less impressive. My ahi (ordered rare) was more than just seared on both sides and my mother in law's halibut was just luke warm. Not ideale. The server was very attentive so I'm inclined to think that the kitchen was just slammed but after an hour and a half with no food, even the most patient grew weary.
I'll give this 3 stars with the hope that the wait and mediocre food can be attributed to Mom's day.

I recently went to Pete's Pizza on Queen Anne Ave. and had a good calzone-it's what they are known for. The menu was a standard pizza menu with suggested combinations or build your own options as well. The calzone dough was light and fresh--it was the best part. The ingredients were just ok. I ordered meatball and I didn't particularly like the flavor and spices. Another pro for Pete's is the beer selection. They had all my favorite local beers on tap. So for about $18 (including tax, tip and a beer) Pete's is a good calzone/pizza option in Queen Anne.
