Not totally serious about serious pie 11/10/2006

I tried out Tom Douglas' new spot Serious Pie on Virginia and 4th (just behind Dahlia lounge). and I thought is was good but not great. I was excited to see a great chef open a casual eating establishment in Seattle (we need more of these) but compared to the relatively new pizza spots in town (Via Tribunali & Tutta Bella), I thought it came in 3rd. The menu was small--5 pies and 5 salads and pricey--$15 individual size pizzas and $9-$10 small individual size salads. I tried the pizza special (provolone with crispy prosciutto and shallots) which was tasty but (as others have mentioned) the crust was thicker and more doughy than I prefer. It's hard to be down on any Tom Douglas creation but I think he's going to have to step it up to beat out some of the other great pizza shops in Seattle. more
