The San Diego Human Society moved into a new building about five years ago and it is beautiful. Roomy individual spaces for the dogs and big-windowed rooms for the cats. They even have an areas with bunnies that are up for adoption. They have a nice store up front where you can buy treats and toys for your pet, with the proceeds going back to the organization. They also have a variety of obedience and pet owner education classes. We took a four-session course when we got our greyhound and were happy with the instructors and the skills we learned. Also, this location accepts towels and blankets for donations for the animals.

We love to go camping in our VW bus, and the Cleveland National Forest offers some nice options close to San Diego. We like to go to the Prado Campground. We usually get a site in the shady loop, as this is closer to the developed bathrooms (gotta love the flush toilets and hot showers). Nice trails from the campground follow the meadow. Dogs are allowed, but must be leashed and stay on paved roads only (no trails). There is a camp host that sells fire wood, or you can pick some up at the little store about five miles south. Reservations accepted through reserveusa.com

Our Costco membership has served us well, particulary when it comes to tires and installation. You can order your tires ahead of time on-line, and then the local shop will give you a call when you come in. Staff is very friendly and is honest about the wait time. Costco also have a great maintenance program for tires they sell you. They will rotate them and such. A few weeks after we bough tires, I ended up getting a road nail in one. They took it out and patched me up good as new. All for free!

Greyhound Connection is the organization that we adopted our retired racer greyhound from. Greyhound Connection is an all volunteer organization. These folks are committed to making life-long matches. We had a phone interview and a home visit from the organization. We are so thrilled with the greyhound we got. Also, the provide a big information booklet with the dog, and are always available to answer question after the adoption. They run several "meet and greets" each month where you can go and meet dogs that are up for adoption. Check out their web page for more information: www.greyhoundconnection.org. Woof!

Tokyo Sushi Loha is located in a non-descript strip mall on El Cajon Boulevard. I tried this place for lunch as was not disspointed. There are reasonably priced lunch specials ($5.95 and up) that come with the entree, rice, miso soup, salad, two pieces of a roll, orange slice, tempura and a chilled sweet tea finish it off. I left very full. The staff was friendly and attentive as well. I ordered the teriyaki salmon and was not disspointed. Definately worth a try!

We used the French Gourmet for our wedding catering. I found the staff to be very helpful in planning our menu, particularly when we had a budget in mind. The day-of staff that ran our event was flawless. I have since used them for several other catering needs and have never been dissapointed. We also opted to get our wedding cake from them .Yumm! Finally, the French Gourmet offers a restaurant and bakery store front. We like to come back to the restaurant for our anniversary. Definately worth checking it out!

New Mexican cuisince is like similar to Mexican, but it's slathered in a fiery green or red sauce. This place is very popular and both sauces were a&&-kicking hot. Thank goodness for the fluffy sopapillas with honey to cool things down. I had the tamale plate and DH had a pork plate. We washed it down with sangria. This place is popular with locals ... so that has to be a good sign.

We stayed here for three nights in April 2006. We were in the A building and had a newly refurbished room. This place offer free internet use via two computers in the lobby. They also offer a good continetal breakfast free as well. Staff was friendly. This is only a 10 to 15 minute walk from the plaza. Lots of parking. Also, they are just a short block from Whole Food so you can pick up snacks and meals. I would definately recommend this place if you want to visit Santa Fe, but don't want to blow all your money on your room. We booked through hotwire.com and got a heck of a deal!

Shade Ocean Front Bistro is located on Abbot Avenue in Ocean Beach. it is right across the street from the beach, so there are great view. Due to the height of this restaurant in relation to the street and the placement of the tables, there is not a bad view in the house. The breakfasts are a good portion and very yummy. Get their early on the weekends if you don't want to wait. There is also two outside seating options which are great if the weather is warm. 1/2 price happy hours are a great bet. There is a parking lot across the street, or there is usually pretty good street parking.

The Mitsuwa Marketplace is located in Kearny Mesa and has quite a bit of parking. The market carries a large selection of Japanese food products. Most are hard to figure out what they are unless you know. There is a little take out sushi place where you can get prepacked rolls, inari, endamamae and other snack items. There is also a noodle shop in the Market, but I have not tried that.
