Perko's Family Restaurant has something on the menu for everyone. Breakfast served all day, along with a tempting list of sandwiches, salads, and full dinners. I opted for the appelwood ribs dinner. It came with a thick piece of toast, green beans and a baked potato. My dining partner selected the carnitas sandwich. We were both delighted with our selections. There is a also an icecream bar. Go for a chocolate shake if you are craving something sweet and cold. Plenty of parking in the adjacent lot and easly located off of SR-99 at the County Line Road exit.

We stopped into the Kernville Chamber of Commerce to get some information on road conditions to the Sequoia National Forest. The staff was very friendly and pulled out a map to show us the route. They even made a copy for us to take along. Outside the office are racks of information, including maps and advertisements for local attractions, dining and restaurants. While the Kern River Valley is small, the Chamber provides a friendly presence and a level of professionalism that is usually reserved for larger places. If your travels take you throug this part of California, definately stop in for information to enhance your trip.

On a recent visit to Kernville we dined at the Kern River Brewing Company. The highlights are the beers. I enjoyed the Isabella Blonde and my dining partner savored the Sequoia Red. Menu items are pub basic and include burgers, sausages with some appetizers and salads thrown in the mix. Go for the Blue Mine Burger ... yumm! All food items are served in stainless steel mixing bowls, which is fun. In addition to table seating, there is a bar. A large screen TV shows the sports. Outside seating is available as well, but it was chilly when we we were there so opted to dine inside. Staff was friendly and attentive. They also sell some cute tee-shirts with their beer labels. Easy parking in front of, or along the side in a dirt lot.

If you are driving on the SR99 in the Central Valley and need a place to stay, the Rodeway Inn in Delano will fit the bill. This property is located at County Line Road. The front desk staff was helpful and the room was clean. The decor in the rooms is a bit outdated, but it was clean and smelled fresh. There is a small pool on the site and a contintal breakfast is offered in the small lobby (packaged pastries, boxed cereals, juice and coffee). A discount is offered if you are an AAA member. Gas stations and several dining options in the vicinity.
I do have two complaints about this property. One, the windows are kind of thin, so you do hear some road traffic. This may be alleviated by getting a room that does not face the stree. Also, our room did not have an alarm clock. Apparently, the previous lodger had stole it from our room and it had not been replaced.

We recently stayed at the Whispering Pines Lodge in Kernville on our way to Sequoia National Park. What a delight. I booked a Riverview room, which means the room has a balcony with table/chairs and two adirondack chairs that overlook the Kern River. The bathroom was huge, with two sinks and seperate tub and shower. Comfortable bed and all around a delight.
As if that wasn't enough, the highlight is the friendly staff. Both on arrival and departure the frnt desk person was warm and friendly. The second highlight is the great breakfast that is included. It's buffet style with lots to choose from. Cereals, eggs, bacon, sausage, potatos, toast, and more. If you go away hunger it's your own fault.
Don't forget to pack your swimsuit!

Woodstocks is a great place for pizza and salads. Definately a favorite with the SDSU college crowd, but still mellow enough to be family friendly. The menu features pizza, of course, as well as a variety of salads, that can be done individual or family size. They have several beers on tap as well as the normal sodas. We like the bbq chicken pizza and the Brother Tom salad. White or wheat crust available.
There are several TVs in the place, so you can also catch your favorite game or show. Outside seating in the back patio as well. Parking is easy, since it's in a shopping center. Mmmmm...pizza!

Boyd Turner Custom Painting provides quality painting services with excellent customer service. Boyd specializes in the Ocean Beach and Point Loma neighborhood, but will work in other areas of San Diego as well. He painted the exterior of our home last year and did an excellent job. Each day, he and his crew cleaned up the mess, so there was not a lot of rubbish or materials laying about. Prior to painting, he also helped us with color selection and even did some test patches so we could decide on what we wanted. I would not hesitate to recommend Boyd and his crew if your home or business needs paint.

Kono's is located on the boardwalk in PB. Long lines are to be expected, but it is worth the wait. This is a casual place where you order at the counter and then grab a seat. Several basic breakfast selections, as well as french toast. There is inside seating as well as two outdoor patio areas (one overlooks the ocean). Parking is located on the street, and is free on Sundays. Alternative, you can park in the Smart and Final parking lot and pay. Good stuff!

Hanger's Cleaners is located in Mission Valley in the same shopping center as IKEA and Costco. While they are a little pricier than typical dry cleaners, the environmental benefits are worth it. I had a down comforter cleaned here and they did a great job. They even packaged it up in a nice carrier/storage bag that I slid right into the closet until I took it out for winter.
The staff is friendly and helpful and they have multiple registers so there is not a long wait. Easy parking right on front of the store.

Ranch 99 Market is located in Kearny Mesa just east of the 805. The store is primarily a grocery store, but there are also little noodle counters as well. The grocery store features a wide variety of asian foods, including items from Thailnad, Vietnam, China and Japan. I even found a few Indian things. The fish section has live fish, as well as a lot of different whole fish. There is also a fresh bakery as well as a take out deli with all kinds of yummy dishes.
The most fun is just to peruse the store and discover something new. There is also a small housewares section that sells soup bowls and other asian-style dishes.
Parking is ok. Easiest to park on the side of the store and walk around.
