I am a person who HATES to exercise and have never done a regular exercise program. Even after my first daughter was born in 2004, I still had no motivation to exercise. But, now I had all of this extra baby weight that was not going away on its own. So, I looked around for an exercise program I could try and bring my baby with me - I was so lucky to find Baby Boot Camp.
Baby Boot Camp is a workout program you do with your baby in his/her stroller. The class is taught by certified instructors and it involves a combination of cardio, strength training with tension bands, and working our your abs, butt, hips and all of your problem spots.
I began the program in July and I did the class at Myrtle Edwards Park downtown - there were a few other outdoor locations but that was the closest to my house. Due to the weather, we are moving indoors to Seattle Center this week, and I believe classes will be starting at indoor locations at Swedish Hospital and in Capitol Hill in the near future.
This program has been so wonderful for me - I can bring my baby, I have made new friends, and I do not hate to exercise anymore. If you are trying to drop some pounds after your first, second, third or even ninth baby, you should check out Baby Boot Camp.

I came across the Red Balloon Company while shopping in the Westlake Center area. I stopped in and ordered balloons for a friend's birthday and was so impressed with the great selection of balloons. There were so many unique balloons that I have not seen in other stores. I did not have this done, but you can even get balloons with customized imprinting or with photographs on them.
My friend loved her balloons - they were delivered on time and she thought they were very original. I have re-ordered with The Red Balloon Company for my daughter's first birthday. I did not want to use latex balloons because the are a choking hazard - and the Red Balloon Company had more than enough mylar balloons for me to choose from.
The Red Balloon Company will deliver to the Seattle Metropolitan area and to many Seattle suburbs. The price for delivery ranges from $10 - $25 depending on location. In addition to balloons, the store has a wonderful selection of candies, gifts, stationary and other great party accessories.
The only problem with The Red Balloon Company - like many things in life, you get what you pay for. They balloons are pretty expensive and delivery is an extra cost. But for a special occasion, it is worth it.

The Right Start offers many popular baby products that you may need, and it is much closer than Babies R Us out in Lynwood. You can purchase items from them such as car seats, strollers, high chairs, car seat carriers, sippy cups, high chair/shopping cart covers and more. I was happy to find it because I had gone to the Babies R Us in Lynwood twice and it took forever to get there and back.
This location is right near U Village so you can shop over there, and then stop in the Right Start for your baby/toddler product needs. They have parking right next to the store which makes it very easy to load in baby and anything you might by. I can almost promise you won't leave empty handed because they have such a great selection of products.
It is a small store so they do not have as much inventory as a Babies/Toys R Us. If there is something in particular you are looking for, I would suggest calling in advance to make sure they have what you want before going. The staff is very friendly, helpful and attentive - much better service than a large chain store. The Right Start also has another location at the Bellevue Square Mall.

My daughter loves fish so we decided to purchase a few goldfish at this Petco. We went to the fish section - picked out a standard fish bowl and then looked for someone to help us take out the fish. It took us about 20 minutes to even find someone to help us. When we finally got someone, he looked like a high school student that had no idea what he was talking about. We asked him, "How many fish can we fit in this bowl?" He said, "Probably 3 or 4." So we got 3. We asked him a variety of other questions and he just kept saying things like, "I'm not sure," "I don't know" or it was obvious he was making up the answers. He did not even offer to ask someone else the questions.
We finally got the fish and went to check out. At that time, the woman checking us out said 3 fish were definitely too many for the tank we had. So we had to go and put one of the fish back. We were also told we need this water conditioner and a few other things that the other kid did not tell us.
To make a long story short, we received all different information from 3 different people, and one of the fish kicked it the first week. A quick Sat. trip to buy some fish turned into an 1.5 frustrating fiasco. I know they are only goldfish - but I would caution anyone buying more expensive pets here. Even if the pets are in good condition, the staff could give you advice that will kill them.

My husband and I were on a "date" night and decided to try Il Fornaio. It was fabulous. They have a downstairs dining area that is more casual and the upstairs is more upscale. We decided to eat in the upstairs area.
The ambiance was beautiful and romantic with dimmed lighting, high ceilings, and bistro-like decor. Our server was AMAZING. She described the dishes and desserts so well - it was hard to turn down anything she mentioned. She was very attentive and our bus boy was just as great. From a service standpoint, it was perfect. We never had to look around for our server or ask for anything because they anticipated our every need.
The food was also great. Delicious homemade pasta cooked to perfection and unique menu choices left us very happy. Our server presented us with a dessert tray at the end that we could not resist even though we were so full. The best part of this meal was that it was not very expensive at all for the quality of food and service. We were very impressed.
As far as bringing the little ones, there were actually several kids dining there while we were there. So it is a nice "date night with baby" place too. I would try to go on the earlier side if you are bringing baby.
As you can tell, we will definitely be going back.

We live a few blocks from Anthony's Pier 66 & Bell Street Diner and have gone several times. We always eat at the "Diner" (even though it is fancier than what I would call a diner), and have had a great experience every time.
We mostly go when we have guests in town because it is a great place to view the beautiful Seattle waterfront while you dine without spending a fortune. If you go during sunset - it is gorgeous. We have a 1 year old daughter and the staff is always very accommodating with her and I do not feel that it is too nice of a place to bring her. They do have high chairs available, but there are limited tables they can put them due to the restaurant layout. If you need a high chair, I would try to call ahead to make a reservation to shorten your wait.
We have always had very good service and I would say the food is good, not great, but good. If you have out of town guests, it is also nice because the diner menu has a variety of pricing options (a burger for around $8.50 and fresh seafood dishes for near $30.00). So if you are not sure how much your guests want to spend on dinner, Anthony's Diner is a great choice.
On one occasion, it was extremely busy and we had several problems. But the management and server handled all of the problems very well and even took several items off of our bill for the inconvenience. Because of the great way they handled the problems, I never hesitate going back. Give Anthony's Bell Street Diner a try and feel free to bring the little one.

I have a small business and wanted to get inserts printed for my packaging. After calling several places, it seemed to me that Minutman Press on Battery had the best price. The people who gave me a quote were less than friendly - but I decided my budget mattered more so I chose them.
I have a long history working in customer service and do not consider myself a high maintenance customer. But the staff was so unfriendly, rude and unwilling to help me complete my project. It was like pulling teeth trying to figure out when it could be finished and getting the exact pricing. It turned out they charged me extra at the end for "special formatting" they had to do so I could have (and should have) gone with another vendor.
The job finally was finished and the inserts looked decent, but next time, I will spend a little more to get better customer service.

I am from N.J. and my parents are from New York City (where I spent a lot of time growing up). For anyone who has had "New York Deli," you know the sandwiches are amazing. Delicious bread, fresh cold cuts - and the sandwiches are HUGE. No offense to the Seattle deli's, but I struggled to find a place that even came close to making such a great sandwich.
Finally, a friend introduced me to the Other Coast Cafe and I fell in love. The sandwiches are FABULOUS and do remind me of New York Style sandwiches. There slogan is "East Coast Sandwiches Built with a Northwest Attitude" and that is exactly what they are.
It is a bit pricey for sandwiches, but it is because they are so big and made very fresh. If you go to a deli on Broadway in New York, you will pay $25 for 1 sandwich so the Other Cafe is cheap compared to that. It is a small place and they do not have much seating - so I always prefer takeout. If you want to check it out, the website is

I have been to several Cheesecake Factories in several cities - and I love it every time. We go to the Cheesecake Factory in Seattle quite a bit with our baby and always have a great experience. After we are seated, they always bring out a "baby plate" for our daughter that has sliced bananas and small pieces of bread on it. They say it is their standard practice to bring that to all tables with babies. I think that is a very nice touch. The staff is also very friendly and great with our baby - making her laugh and making sure she has everything she needs. There is also so much to look at in there - it keeps our baby busy. It is also just loud enough that if she starts crying, the background noise drowns her out so no one can really hear.
Besides the fact that it is good place to go with baby - my husband and I love the food. For those of you who have been there before, you know the menu is literally so big - it is a book. The food is delicious and they give you huge portions. My advice - eat half your meal to save room for the amazing desserts - and take the other half of your food home for later.
One word of caution - if you are going with baby, go at off-peak times for best experience. The Cheesecake Factory does not take reservations and often times the wait is over an hour - not good for baby. Going for lunch after 1:30pm, and an early dinner on the weekend (5:00ish) will guarantee less of a wait if any and more attention from the server for you and your baby.

I had heard from a friend that Cascadia had these amazing mini-burgers. So, a bunch of us went to try them out at Cascadia's Happy Hour. They were delicious and - only $1 each during the happy hour times (5pm-7pm). They also had great calamari for $2.50 and drink deals. We sat outside and the atmosphere was very relaxing. The rest of the bar menu was also very good with items such as raw oysters, skillet roasted prawns, artisanal cheeses, and vegetable chips.
Cascadia did not get 5 stars from me because our server was rude. In my opinion (from having a career in restaurant management), a restaurant that nice should not have a server with such a poor attitude. With that said, it may have just been "one bad apple in the bunch." I have not been back yet to see how the other servers are - but I will go back soon for those great burgers.
One more thing to note - the "Mock-Tail" menu (virgin drinks), is very pricey. One of my friends who came with us was pregnant and her "Mock-Tail" was about .50 less than the real thing. Very overpriced in my opinion.
