All new parents and parents to be should visit Safer Baby. They've done all the footwork for you and put together every product necessary to completely baby proof your place for your new arrival. From outlet covers to stove knobs... they have everything a paranoid new Mom needs to feel secure.
The only negative is that it's a tiny shop so navigating with a stroller or kids in tow can be a bit of a pain. Also, there is negative parking unless you are extremely lucky. I think there is one spot out back. Otherwise you have to hope that someone on Ventura is pulling out at exactly the time you wish to pull in. How's your parking karma?
Bottomline: If you can find a place to park, this one's worth the trip.

Oh Lisa, whoever and wherever you are. Why do you call this "NY Style"? I just moved to LA from NYC a year ago and I can tell you there is nothing NY about this place. Not that it's a bad thing, but it just bothers me that you would put the word "NY" in the shop title when it has absolutely nothing to do with the clothing inside.
Why not just stick with LA style, if that's what you do well?
That said, the clothing here is fine. It's not a spectacular selection, but since it's a resale shop maybe I just visited on a picked over day.
Bottomline: For real NY style, go to NY.

This place is not the place to go for a quick trip to buy some film. I must say that it's a great place to go if you are looking for a hard to find item. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and I've never had a problem they couldn't solve.
I have a couple of vintage and novelty cameras and finding film has never been a problem here. When shopping for a new camera the sheer inventory will have your head spinning, but the kind staff can hold your hand through the process making sure you get the kind of camera that suits your particular needs.
Bottomline: Picture perfect shopping for the novice or pro camera buff.

This is the place to go for designer resale garments. Be prepared to pay for it, but you will get quailty stuff here! They even get brand new designer overstock so it's worthwhile keeping your eyes peeled for new inventory.
I've seen Gucci jeans, Prada handbags.. really high end items for a fraction of what they would cost new. I've even seen some Chanel here, ooh la la!
Most of the pieces are in EUC (excellent used condition) and look as if they've been worn only one or two times. This is a great place to find Manolo Blahniks if you are the Sex and the City type of girl!
The shop says they receive items from movie sets, wardrobe stylists, runway shows as well as the generous general public.
Bottomline: Bring cash to make some sweet deals even sweeter.

This is the kind of place where celebrities shop for their offspring because money is no object. If you don't mind shelling out $42 on a tee for your 6 month old, then this is the place for you.
I have to admit the stuff is cute, but I'll wait until the trend dies down and hunt for knock-offs before shelling out a hundred plus for a peacoat for my toddler.
Bottomline: Miniature Paris Hiltons may apply here.

The slogan for this place is "Where Style Meets Sport" and I think that's really true. If you are looking for a place to find workout gear that actually makes you look like you are in better shape than you are... check out Lucy.
I was first attracted to the mannequins in the window, but don't be put off by the spare interior of the shop. The staff are warm and inviting and very helpful.
Trying on workout gear is not my favorite thing in the world. I'm always on the search for something comfortable for yoga that will also work on the treadmill. Even though it was a bit on the pricey side, the staff at Lucy helped me to find several pieces that work for both activities.
As an added bonus they helped me to accentuate the positives and camouflage the negatives. Not an easy task after two kids!
Bottomline: Lucy will help you find some workout gear that look so good you may even look forward to working out.

I used to live at the beach and whenever I need a fix of surf culture, I head out to Val Surf. Located in North Hollywood, it's kind of a funny location for a surf shop, but I'm glad I found it.
This place has a great selection of boards and a knowledgeable staff that will help pro or novice find a good fit. If you are not a real surf Betty, but you just want to look the part they also stock lots of Zoo York and other beach-related gear to help you pose at the Pier.
You'll also find that since their overhead is lower in the valley, the prices here are significantly lower than other beachside surf shops.
Bottomline: Get your shorts and boards here, then head to Santa Monica for the surf.

This place is sexy. The staff and the clothes! Owner Irene is an outright doll who really cares about helping customers find what they are looking for.
Gasp!
Yes, she's one of the old fashioned kind of business owners who really wants to make sure you are happy when you leave the shop... and that you keep coming back. And guess what? Her attention to detail and knowledge of the business works.
They carry all the latest looks by such celeb faves as Diesel and Juicy Couture. But, instead of just relying on what is "in style" they also carry a heavy dose unique items which are not seen on every fashionista in Hollywood.
Bottomline: Get your buzz from Adrenaline!

My sister dragged me into this shop. Once inside I discovered a wacky collection of books about, and paraphernalia from, every religion I had ever heard of, plus a few I had not heard of.
A big plus is the on-site psychics who will give you readings at the shop. My sister's reading was very helpful to her. As an actress, she was pleased to hear that she would soon land a role on a Soap and would be famous. As a skeptic, my reading was less so. They told me that I am entering a period of relaxed confusion. Hmmm...
There are statues of various deities to satisfy any budding altar builder. There are also tarot cards for the budding psychic.
Bottomline: A fun place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.

Attended an event here on Father's Day and it was a wonderful affair. The buffets were well stocked and the food was fresh and attractively displayed.
Only had one problem with the orange juice fountain which was foamy and kind of scary looking. Like some sort of undersea monster that was disintegrating. That aside, the mountains of fresh shrimp more than made up for it.
The lovely ponds are stocked with enormous koi and some cute swans swim around near the bridges. It's a cheesy, retro, and romantic getaway that makes you feel a bit like you are visiting Frontierland you-know-where.
Bottomline: Be prepared to have fun and don't be surprised if you run into a famous country singer or two... this place is a famous stop on country tours.
