The Ohio Grantmakers Forum is a wonderful collaboration of all grantmakers and funders in Ohio who choose to be members. They offer a variety of conferences and trainings that help education and inform grantmakers of the latest in technology, effectiveness, financial and legal matters and the state of philanthropy across the Nation and especially in Ohio. Not all of the training sessions are wonderful and helpful, but I anticipate their annual conference to be great. This group is really effective in joining together for a united front standing for foundations and non-profit organizations.

I must say first off that I love eating at IHOP. We never had one around us while we were growing up and I looked forward to visiting my grandparents so that I could have griddle cakes, stuffed french toast and the banana nut pancakes with butter pecan syrup! YUM! Their service in most locations is really fast and the food is hot and tastes great. Unfortanuate, every IHOP in the Greater Cincinnati area does not have the full "traditional" IHOP menus and only has a small selection of all the wonderful breakfasts I love. In addition to that, every IHOP I have been to in the area has horrible service. I have not had decent service from any of the locations around, orders have been messed up and the food has been cold. At my last experience, we visited this location on a week day for brunch. There were not a lot of people there at all and our order was still messed up and the service was still very poor. I'm sorry to say that I won't be eating at the IHOP's in Greater Cincinnati anytime soon. That's really too bad because I am often in the mood for some pancakes with butter pecan syrup or breakfast period.

I have had my car in to this Bob Sumerel's severl times in the past year. They have always been very professional and we have not really ever had a problem with their work. Three weeks ago I had my rear brakes replaced, and just this past week, we had the front brakes done, new calipers and roters too. We were to leave town the next day, and when we got in our car and started driving the brake light on my dashboard kept flashing on, and then it would go out. So we called Bob Sumerel's and they were able to take a look at it and return it to us within half an hour. All we needed was a little brake fluid someone had forgotten to top off. So, I am impressed overall with their work an that they were willing to look at this past issue immediately and take care of things.

I must say, Fifth Third has a lot going for them. They have full-service lines of commercial, private and retail banking, trust administration and investment services. Their stock price has been low lately and I feel that is due to rumored mergers or acquisitions, but the bank has still maintained a strong front. They are fairly easy to deal with and it is conveinient for me to do my banking while at the grocery store, as Fifth Third has a bank mart in every Kroger in the area. They are a large enough bank that whereever you go in the midwest, you can always bank at "your bank."

Cincinnati has a great downtown library. While it is much larger than many other branches, they have a great collection of books, periodicals, research material, etc. I love walking to the library on my lunch hour to find some new and interesting books. There is a small enclosed garden that is part of the library, and it is a wonderful place to sit and read in the summer. There are also chairs that face large windows to the garden which are nice, too. I haven't had any problems reserving a book or checking things out. They are very helpful!

Ohio Valley Voices is one of my favorite organizations to read and hear about. Ohio Valley Voices provides services for deaf children that teach them to talk. There is a special cochlear implant that, if done early enough, can enable children to hear a bit and learn to speak naturally. Many of these kids you would never know they were deaf if you were listening to them. They do great work, and are such a blessing and inspiration. They are miracle workers!

Assembly Christian School used to be a wonderful school with grades K through 12. However; a couple of years ago they had to close the high school. This is/was a really good school with teachers who cared more about their students than what grade they received on a math test. They really take in interest in their students lives. I graduated from this school, as did my younger sisters, and I feel we all received a great education. We all received scholarships to college and have done well (above 3.0) in our university pursuits. This is one of the least expensive private Christian schools in Lexington, and was worth it. They didn't have a huge sports, music or other extra-curricular activities, but we still made by. I would have liked to have some options, but I turned out fine. I'm sure the elementary school now is blossoming!

I'm excited to be the first one to review the school I graduated from! Northern Kentucky University is a great school. Although I graduated several years ago, it still is so fresh in my memory. I went to a very small high school, think 20 people my graduating class, so I was kind of leery about going to a public university as I was much more comfortable with small schools. Well, when I got offered a scholarship I couldn't turn down, I went off to NKU. I LOVED IT! Class sizes were small for the most part, usually 15-20 students per class, and my professors were wonderful. Several of them had such an impact on who I am today. Their campus is nice even though many of the buildings are reminiscent of prisons. Great school and close to Cincinnati.

Paul Brown stadium is a wonderful new facility along the riverfront in Cincinnati. The look of the stadium is really nice, and the vendors and stores are accessible and good as well. As home of the Cincinnati Bengals, the stadium has seen a lot of good and bad football. Now that the Bengals are doing better and are so close to playoff contention, Paul Brown Stadium will be packed out even more than previous years. Bengal fever is on its way back! Welcome to the Jungle!

Star Lake Music Camp is one of the most memorable places I have ever been. It will always hold a special place in my heart as I have met many wonderful friends through their annual music camp for the Eastern Territory of the Salvation Army. Thier music camp gathers top musicians from all over the Salvation Army to come and have clinics, bands, etc for a full week in August. The performances are fantastic, and it is a great experience for all the campers and staff members. The lake is beautiful, the woods are very scenic. You have to visit the Crow's Nest and Hallelujah! Rock just so you can say you have! It's a great place!
Hail Star Lake Camp! The music camp for me-and-you and you-and-me! Razzle dazzle, Rah! Rah! Rah! Oskie woskie, Sis! Boom! Bah! Sound a cheer for dear old SLC! 2-3-4 Hail Star Lake Camp! The place of harmon-y! For is S-T-A-R L-A-K-E M-U-S-I-C, it's the camp for me! Star Lake!
