The Cutting Room is one of those small little places that you wouldn't notice driving down busy California Avenue in West Seattle, but inside you will find two of the nicest and most talented hair stylists around. Tess and BJ are both down to earth and easy to talk to as well as great at what they do. It is a nice change to have their personal attention rather than the corporate feel some salons have. Their prices are reasonable and it is a good value for what you get. They have limited hours so booking in advance is necessary.

The West Seattle YMCA is a great place to work out and have fun with your kids. They offer a wide variety of classes, free weights, cardio machines and swimming. They have all the latest in fitness: pilates, yoga, bosu, kickboxing as well as tons or kids to do. Their on-site child care is awesome for that much needed "you" time to work out or just go in the hot tub and sauna. They have monthly parents-night-out and family activities open to the community. Also, they have swimming lessons and birthday party facilities for kids. They do it all and it is a local non-profit that really strives to serve the need of the community. See my review of their on-site licensed pre-school.

This store is a great little spot for good quality toys and books for kids. They have a nice selection with a range in prices - plus a fun place for kids to play while you shop. They offer free gift wrap (it's so cute!) that it makes it the only place we will go to buy birthday party gifts for our daughter's pre-school friends. They have neat toys for babies on up - even my husband makes it an outing with the kids just to check out what they have. They even have a really nice kid-friendly bathroom with a changing table and a small potty for babies and toddlers.

This little place is our favorite for brunch on the weekend - with or without the kids, it is always delicious and doesn't break the bank. They have good coffee, your standard american dishes but with a little twist here and there - plus, their wait staff are good with kids, and the atmosphere is casual. I love the eggs benedict with homemade hollandaise, none of that powdered stuff! The prices are reasonable and the location is great too. If you go a little earlier than the after-church crowd, you can avoid having too long of a wait.

If you are loooking for not only a wonderful facial or other day spa service, look no further. Ummelina is truly a vacation from your real life -from the minute you enter, you are able to let the world melt away and focus on yourself for a change. Trust me, as a mom of a 5 month old and 4 year old, this is no easy task! I loved the atmosphere and the people who work there, from the minute you arrive you feel pampered. Their prices are consistent with other quality salons/spas especially downtown. One last thing - they offer parking validation all day on the weekend (yes! they are open Sundays) so a perk is that you can shop or eat downtown before hand and end your day in total relaxation. Definitely something I would do again or get as a gift for someone I love.
