Each month the local SPJ offers networking events called Press Club Nights. Once a month a group of 20 to 50 journalists and media specialists gather together to network, meet, greet, and share ideas. The events are free and are open to freelancers, members of the media, media staff and journalism students and faculty. These casual two-hour networking events are usually held at an area restaurant in Skagit or Whatcom County. To find out where the next event is being held, visit this link:

Earlier this year the State Street Depot Bar & Grill opened up in the old bus depot in downtown Bellingham. This pub/restaurant has a warm, cozy feel to it. In addition to traditional and bar seating, there is a casual area set off with leather furniture, stacked suitcases for drink tables, and a separate bar area.
My group recently booked this area for a casual networking event, and the staff and owner were superb. Service was great, the drinks and food were tasty, and best of all, it was affordable.
If you stop in, order the nachos. For less than $5 (during happy hour), you'll get the best nachos you've ever had...with plenty to share with your friends. It's a fun new spot - be sure to try it!
