Papa Haydn serves excellent food and dessert, and the environment of the restaurant is fun and sophisticated. The neighborhood (NW 23rd Ave) is fun, and I think adds to the appeal of the restaurant.
The food is delicious and creative, and you have plenty of options. The desserts, though, are a major draw. The cakes, the panna cotta, anything with chocolate -- Papa Haydn knows their desserts and offers a wide selection.
Expect a bit of a wait on weekends, but the wait is worth it (and save room for dessert!).

Zell's is a sunny and quaint café in Southeast Portland that serves absolutely delicious breakfast and brunch dishes.
You might have a bit of a wait during peak weekend brunch hours, but the wait is definitely worth it. Once you're seated, enjoy the warm complementary scones. There are plenty of omelette-type dishes to enjoy, always with something different or interesting accompanying them, but my personal favorite has got to be the German pancakes. Zell's changes up the toppings on their pancakes quite frequently, so you are able to try the freshest fruits. This restaurant is truly a delight.

I have been to the restaurant a number of times, and I have always been impressed with the food. Their menu is packed with delicious items, and there seems to be something for everyone's taste buds.
If you don't feel like a ful meal, but instead want to grab a drink, Oba's bar (which is split off from the restaurant section) is well-stocked and sophisticated.

World Cup Coffee & Tea is a coffee shop favorite of mine; not only because I love their coffee (and tea!), but also because of their philosophy on sustainability.
The atmosphere of the coffee shop is casual and relaxing, and I particularly enjoy grabbing a cup to go and enjoying a walk through the surrounding neighborhood. This is a local coffee shop with a global perspective on responsibility, which not only makes coffee that's good for the taste buds, but also good for the soul.

If you are on N. Michigan Avenue and looking for something quick and delicious, Joey Buona's is an excellent option. You can also sit down for a meal in the dine-in section of the restaurant, but I have mostly taken my food to go (or have eaten in the quick-order section of the restaurant because it is so convenient).
The panini sandwiches are delicious (what I mostly come to Joey Buona's for), and I love their cheese sticks. The service is also very speedy and courteous. The portions are large and the prices are reasonable.

Cafe Iberico is a lively tapas restaurant with delicious food and a decent selection on the menu. I am particularly fond of the Spanish tortillas and the cured ham dishes. The calamari are also quite good.
The atmosphere is fun and the prices are not outrageous. If you go most nights (and definitely weekends), be prepared for a bit of a wait. Once you order and start sampling the food, though, the wait is surely worth it.

Anne Sather's is one of my favorite places for weekend brunch, and not just because they give you warm and delicious cinnamon rolls with your meal. They have a wide variety of dishes for a reasonable price, and I am particularly fond of the eggs benedict (crabcakes benedict, too).
At most of the Anne Sather's locations, however, you should be prepared for a wait if you go during weekend brunch hours.

I have been a huge fan of Imelda's for a number of years (from before they moved to their new location directly on Hawthorne), and have consistently depended on Imelda's for my cute-shoe needs.
In the new location, which is quite a bit larger, I have also found that they have a much expanded selection of interesting and fun handbags (in addition to many more shoes!).
If you are looking for something fun or funky, I recommend a look at what Imelda's has to offer.

Pho Van is one of my favorite restaurants in Portland. The menu is diverse and interesting, and I particularly like their sweeter dishes (such as lemongrass chicken). I haven't sampled a great portion of the menu, however, because I so enjoy the dishes I've already tried!
The Pearl District location is fabulous and fun, and the atmosphere of the restaurant is relaxing both for a casual lunch or a dinner celebration. The decor is pleasant and there are many tables situated near windows, so there's plenty of opportunity to take in the life of the Pearl District as you eat.
My experiences with the service have always been positive -- in fact, I have been impressed with their wait staff on more than one occasion.

Zupan's is a great grocery store to go to when you want free range chicken, fresh tropical flowers, or some specialty Irish cheddar at 3am on New Years Day. It's that convenient and that specialized -- a glorious combination in a supermarket. In addition to providing daily staples, such as cereal, bananas, eggs, or milk (which seem to be more spendy than less specialized markets), Zupan's offers a variety of fine foods and fresh produce that you can't find at any old supermarket. I especially enjoy their produce department, as they tend to keep only the freshest of fruits and veggies. Their deli is also convenient when you don't have time to cook, and you can't go wrong with their fresh meats, either.
