This is the bakery part of Sauder Village that makes wonderful products. It is located on the north side of town and is connected with the village. wonderful aromas greet you as you enter the building. There are pies, cakes, cookies, muffins, bagels, noodles, and all sorts of wonderful breads. You can buy items to take home or you can buy one cookie or roll or donut's and eat there. There are some gifts that go along with the bakery items, jams, cookbooks and other items. Once you go there you will want to return because of the excellent products that are available. Parking is in front of the building and it is easy access in and out. The decor is in the Mennonite tradition. The old fashioned decor is inviting to people and there are many returning customers who have been so pleased with the product.. Products are very reasonable for the quality that you get. My favorite are the old fashioned sugar cookies.

The Barn Restaurant is a Mennonite restaurant that has excellent food and service. It is a huge restore barn that is located on the north side of town and is connected with an historic village creation with a farm, camping, a huge hall for events and restoration of many old time buildings-ice cream shop, school house, glass blowing shop, tin shop, church and many other buildings that have been brought to the village and restored. It is a huge tourist attraction and draws people from throughout the country. The Barn is decorated in the country style-there are many rooms and you can reserve a room for a special occasion. There is a huge buffet with things such as fried chicken, biscuits, gravy, grits and many salads. YOu can also order from the menu. There is a child's menu also. The desserts are wonderful-bread pudding, pies, cakes and other wonderful creation. On Monday at noon there is a special price for the buffet. There is also a loft or upstairs area that is often used for larger gatherings. the staff is very friendly and helpful. There is usually not a wait unless you go right at dinner time or on Sundays. YOu can make reservations. Prices are affordable and you certainly do not leave on an empty stomach. People often bring out of town visitors to The Barn because of it's reputation.

This restaurant is located south of town along the river at a major bridge crossing and 2 highways. the restaurant was remodeled a few years ago and is very attractive and homey. there is ample parking by the restaurant. It is also located near a golf club so has a steady repeat group of customers. Each week they print their specials in the local paper. The restaurant is clean and well maintained. food is reasonably priced. The staff is friendly and very courteous. The food is family style and items include those that you remember from home. Customers come from several nearby communities. The hours are very conducive to meals and you feel as though you are welcome.

There is a bar but also food is served. it is especially popular on weekends and after sporting events in town. It is easy to find and has ample parking on the street. the food is really good-including sandwiches and meals. It is good, home cooked food. The staff is very friendly and inviting. There is music available and you can see your friends and neighbors when you go in to eat.

The service staff is friendly and always attentive to providing quick and accurate repairs. They are a full service shop and will in addition to service and regular oil and common items such as belts and coolant checks will also rotate tires. They will even wash the car if needed. There are 3 bays where they can work on cars and a well stocked parts area. If they do not have the proper parts they will order them and receive them very quickly. If you have a recall on your car, they will repair or fix whatever the problem is and will offer loaners to their regular customers if there is a delay in repair. There is a small, pleasant waiting area with tv and reading material. Restrooms are also available. This business has been in town for many years and is now in third generation of the family. Parking is available in front on the street or along the side of the building or in a lot across the street.

There is a wide range and variety of food. the prices are reasonable and the service is very good. Many repeat customers go back because of the food. There is a large variety of dishes on the buffet and if you have questions about any of the food, the staff will assist you. The restaurant has been in business many years and has a good reputation for good food. What ever your fortune cookie says, the best fortune you can have is to choose to dine here.

The cafeteria serves meals every day and the food is excellent. Prices are reasonable and each day there re three specials-two different sandwiches and an entrée plus soup. the menus are printed every Sunday in the local paper. The sandwich specials are $1.96 and the entrée or special feature is $3.00. Soup is $1.10/bowl and 60 cents/cup. the cafeteria is located in the basement and overlooks a patio that the center continues to develop with seating and landscaping. When the special is Mexican or Italian or some kind of salad, the cost is based on weight. The decor is fairly plain. Staff is very friendly and the cook does an awesome job. It is a place where a lot of people go after church on Sunday and for those on a limited income, it is a great place to go for good food and reasonable,prices. Parking is available int he lot at the front of the building and you can either take the elevator or the stairs to the lower level.

Charlie's Down Under is a restaurant located in downtown Defiance. It has a long history of fine dining with good service and excellent food. It has had different names and owners int he past but the current owner continues the tradition. there is a bar and booth area when you enter the restaurant-down the stairs but an elevator is available through the adjoining store which is owned by the same person. There are 4 rooms-w of which can be used as private dining rooms for parties or special occasions. Lunch is served with a daily special-sandwiches, soups, salads and of course pie-Pie is what makes the restaurant outstanding. They are baked fresh daily and are very tempting-YOu can purchase a half-slice or whole slice or whole pies can be ordered. Cost of lunch is between $5 and $10.
Dinner menus include steak, fish and specials. These run from $12-$20 or higher. Fine wine is also available. Service is excellent and very friendly. the owner will move around the room greeting people and making sure all is well. He offers many services to the community and is very much in volunteerism. Int he summer on Fridays,he cooks outside along the street and you can get a very nice lunch for $5. Parking is along the street and is ample. You can make reservations if you wish and if you have special dietary needs, he will make sure that these are met.

This is a locally owned, soft serve ice cream store. The original location was on an old highway leading out of town in an area that is industrial and businesses and follows a railroad track. It had been in business many years and was successful. Eric has taken the business to a new level. He continues the tradition of soft serve ice cream. My favorite is the orange, raspberry sherbet swirl-wonderful. Many people like the chocolate combinations similar to a Blizzard. Once a train stopped on the tracks and the engineer and crew got off, walked across the highway, got their ice cream, then got back in the train and went on down the tracks. Eric has now opened a second store out on the east side of town in the middle of a paved parking lot in the Kroger Plaza. It certainly stands out since it is in the middle of an existing lot, but the business has increased so that now it out does the other location. Parking is easy here and there is a drive through as at the other location. the difference though is that there is a covered area with seating at the original location and here it is all out in th open and bright sun. The stores are open from March-October. Service is excellent, prices are affordable and the ice cream is oh so good.
