Hakubundo on Kapiolani is a little Japanese store that carries all types of Japanese materials, including comic books, oragami papers, stamps and other gift items. The prices are pretty expensive but they often hold sales, so you can pick up some cool stuff for a little cheaper. As the other reviewer mentioned, Girls Day and Boys Day is probably one of their bigger events and that's when they sale special items like fish lanterns.
It is one of the few Japanese craft stores left on the island.

Down To Earth is a regular grocery store for vegans and health nuts. I see a lot of runners and althetics shop in there. I personally think their food is overpriced but then again, it is "organic." I browse the isles often and they offer a good selection of products. There are a lot of products that you'd not normally see at a regular grocery store.
Down To Earth also sells aromatherapy items and herbal medicine.

The price is a little cheaper than Block Buster but you have to return it quicker than BlockBuster.
You'll be surprised at the types of films you will find there, a lot of oldies but goodies that you have long forgotten about. The staff is friendly and they know the store and location of the videos pretty well.

Ocean's is probably the most prestigious club in Hawaii since it did get exposure on Wild On E or some famous TV show. But not just because of that, the club really does well to get the crowds in.
From 4-8PM daily, they offer half priced pupus and some drink specials.
From 9-4AM, the club begins and on most nights, it is 23 and over which keeps the youngins out. On Thursday and Saturday nights, they allow 21 n over to go in. So basically, those are their busiest nights. EVERYONE likes to go to Oceans, except some do complain that they wait forever in line and it gets way too crowded inside.
P.S. Guys - don't forget to wear collar shirt and cover shoes or they will NOT let you in!

Side Street Inn is really located on the side of the main streets behind Ala Moana Shopping Center. It is a local favorite because the local chef there really makes some good food.
The Inn is not exactly family oriented, but rather a gathering place for friends. They have beer on tab and the food goes well with it.
The more I ate at Side Street though, the more I felt that the food was a little greesy (of course depends on what you order). They have some fresh dishes on special such as steamed fish.
Overall, Side Street is a great place and showcases the talents of a local chef that wants to keep it small.

The bartenders were fast in making drinks and the place gets pretty crowded on the weekends. The crowd consist of mainly males and everyone seemed to have a good time. It was a nice and friendly place to hang out because I met a lot of new people that night.

Many local guys hang out there on a regular basis. It can get very smoky in there.

A friend of mine take me to Lewers Lounge for my birthday drink and it was one of the most romantic lounges I've ever been to. It was a very chill place with big lounge chairs and live performance. A lady serenaded and the music volume was just right. The lights dimmed very nicely and the service was perfection.
The lounge caters to mainly to the higher class people so it does not tend to get crowded. I highly suggest taking your date to this lounge if you want to share in each other's company and relax.
They really have the best maitais on the island! It does cost about $11-12 for one.

Zanzabar was the "in" place to be until they started advertising to the military crowd. It is probably one of the most classy clubs on the island. The club is pretty good except for the price. It is about $15-20 to get in and the drinks are also very expensive.
They have different themes on certain nights. I believe Thursday is Thirsty Thursday. They also have salsa music on some nights.
Each time I go I always see some island celebrities that go there - such as college basketball players. I think the crowd has now changed and caters mostly to tourist and military. Once this happens, the locals are turned off and perfer not to go to these places/clubs.

This bar offers a lot of draft beer on special. You can just hang out there with your friends, play some darts, play pool or the megatouch games.
The crowd is mixed with locals who live in Waikiki, tourist and some military.
