Trying to kill your hangover with grease, coffee and bloody marys? This is the place. Plus, you get a view of the Space Needle in the men's bathroom.

My old roommate and I went on a quest, throughout Seattle and the Eastside, for the best Peking Duck in Seattle, and we found it at Shanghai Garden. After this we had it at least once every six months. Superb, as is the pan fried bean curd, and any of the fruit flavored beef, chicken, or shrimp dishes. Actually anything. My favorite Chinese restaurant.

You wouldn't think a restaurant right next to the QFC would be rustic and romantic, but amazingly enough, La Spiga is. Depending on what night you go, there's a lot of the owner's relatives around, and it definitely makes the place feel authentic, as well as the stone and brick interior.
But that's nothing to the food. Cheese plate, lasagna, pasta, chicken, or tiramisu - one bite after another, pleasure. I can't recommend this place enough. It does get crowded sometimes, so go early or go late, and you won't regret it!

There are a ton of Ballard options for bar food, but I keep coming back to Bad Albert's. Great atmosphere - feels like a bar, but not one the health inspector is afraid to eat at. The salads use proper lettuce rather than the iceberg standard, and the portions are reasonable instead of gargantuan. We had a burger and the Cajun Chicken, both were great. Next time I'll try the happy hour specials!
