Sometimes it is nice to have someone else pack your lunch, so I stop in at Heavenly Ham and get a Box Lunch that includes a ham sandwich (I choose rye bread) a side (Potato chips or potato salad are often my choice) a yummy deli pickle, a cookie (chocolate chip) and a pop (Classic Coke.) Then I find a place to have a picnic, enjoy the sunshine and my Box Lunch.

I used to work around the corner from this Halo Burger, used to be Kewpie's.(same menu.) These are great burgers, onion rings. The Boston Coolers are good, too. We used to go through the drive thru for lunch...downtown Flint...great memories. An item that they no longer have on the menu is their carrot cake and pies...and their carrot cake was delicious. Halo Burger's are all over the area now...great burgers.

I started eating Big John Steak and Onion subs with melted cheese hot off the grill when I worked near one of them. Occasionally I would have a cold sub, my favorite being the Italian, which was spicy and greasy goodness. I don't get a chance to eat there very often, but I still like the same as before. I imagine these are similar to Philly cheese steaks...but I don't know for sure.

The Wharton Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Michigan State University brings some excellent shows to an area that many residents feel lacks culture. Many Broadway Shows make it to the Wharton Center, the Lion King just recently ended a run here. We have seen "Stomp" at the Wharton twice. many musical venues show here, as well. The Wharton Center is a first class Theatre.

We had heard good things about Mays, so when we found ourselves in the area, we decided to try it out. #1 good thing _NO smoking !!! My first impression of the place was that it lacked a feeling of cleanliness, though it had a down home appeal. We decided not to go the all you can eat style where people were brought crab in buckets...I had Crab Imperial which was mighty good. The menu had many other options that looked tantalizing, so if I find myself in the area, I will surely stop again.

Dusty's Cellar is a wine store, plus more. There are gourmet food items like hot sauces and coffees, there are fresh baked breads and fancy desserts. Just recently I discovered that you can get sandwiches and dinner items to go here and what I have tried have been quite good. I generally go to Dusty's Cellar during the Winter Holidays to pick up unusual goodies for gift baskets.
There is also a restaurant attached to Dusty's Cellar. I have not eaten there, yet, though I hear from friends that the food is quite good.

Forbes Candy and Gift Shop is a large store with many T-shirts and souvenir items, but the reason to stop here, in my opinion, is the Salt Water Taffy. On a trip to the Outer Banks we ended up stopping 3 times, as we had developed a family "Taffy Dodge" game that will be part of that trip's memories forever...as will the Taffy from Forbes!!!

Whenever I find myself traveling into the Chicago area, I pack the car with a couple coolers in order to take some treats home. One of the stops for that purpose is Paulina Market. There we get German sausage for my Dad, and Kielbasa for Mom and my son likes to load up a supply of the thin, spicy hunter sausages. This is also the place where we first discovered Kasia's Pierogis in the freezer section, but now we usually make a stop at Kasia's too. Paulina Market is meat market heaven, especially for sausages!

Whenever we get to the Chicago area, there are a couple places we make last minute stops at in order to carry the goods home (in coolers.) Kasia's is one of those places. I may browse all the goodies there and buy some of this and that, but you can be sure I am walking out with DOZENS of Kasia's Pierogis!!! My absolute favorite is the cheese...sweet goodness, I always get lots of those. I also get a good mix of the others, enough to keep us for a while and enough to gift to my Mother and others. This reminds me...we haven't been in Chicago for a while.

We visit downtown Chicago as often as we can and My Thai is on our list of must haves when we are in the vicinity. Though I have had Pad Thai other places and it is a relatively simple dish, when I get it from My Thai...it is always the best Pad Thai I have ever had. Their Basil Chicken is also good, everything we have eaten from My Thai has been tasty, but my personal favorite is their Pad Thai!
