We have never never been disappointed with the food at this little Indian restaurant. The food there is fresh and the service is fantastic and friendly. There is an inside eating area that is kept clean and tidy with a high chair for the kids. If it is nice out, there is also outdoor seating by the fountain. The prices are very reasonable.
Our son's favorite dish by far is honey lemon chicken, which in the kid's meal comes over rice in a little bowl. It is a very generous size for a kids meal and is healthy. My favorite dish is the mater paneer (vegetarian dish). Theirs is very flavorful and you can get it in a combination plate with other items.
If you are in the area, I highly recommend you stop by and try their food. It is delicious!

I love to sew so having a Beverly's within a few minutes of my home is not great for the budget but sure is nice! Beverly's is a chain store but this is the only one I know of in the San Diego area. This location is primarily fabric (i.e., probably more than 50% of the store), which is exactly the way I like it. The remainder of the store is dedicated to some craft items, a few aisles of scrapbook supplies and knitting.
The fabric selection is truly excellent for the size of the store. They care higher quality quilting fabric in a wide array of colors and fun prints. Prices are moderate, and the sale tables in the back are wonderful places to find treasures. In the way back corner there are flat fold material types, but I have had varying luck with some of the quality on those. The quilting fabrics I have gotten there though have never disappointed me. They also carry some nicer fabrics such as satins and luxury fabrics. I have not had a need for these, but they appear to have a fair selection.
Customer service has always been friendly without a long wait at the cut table or the checkout. When I have needed assistance finding something or advice, the staff has always been knowledgeable.
If you go in, be sure to also check out their ribbons and trims as they have quite a nice selection of those, as well as novelty and regular buttons.

It is so hard to find a good doctor. I just have to recommend my primary physician, Judith Kemp, DO. She is located near UTC right off highway 5, great location and parking always in the lot (and no parking fee, unlike some doctor buildings lately!). Her office staff is wonderful and appointments are easy to come by without a long wait when you are ill and need to to get in right away.
Dr. Kemp is very personable and down to earth, not cold at all, and very knowledgeable. In my experience, she is not likely to talk down to you at all and spends time with you to explain and be sure you completely understand, and answer any questions you have. If you don't need medication for whatever the problem is, she is not going to push medication but rather recommend a wait and see approach, or a more holistic one. Whenever I have needed to try different medications, she has provided samples so I am not out the cost of several prescriptions before I find one that works well.
Overall, a wonderful doctor that I have been seeing for several years now.

The Borders in Mission Valley is truly a book lovers heaven compared to most of our book stores here in San Diego. It is fairly large with a good selection of popular titles of both books and magazines as well as music. Rarer titles will still have to be ordered but the self-serve kiosks allow easy lookup to determine availability of titles, and the staff is friendly if you do need to order a title.
The children's area is in the back and good size with area to sit down with your little one for browsing before purchasing. There are also kid-sized tables and chairs to sit on as well as the carpeted area. The parenting section is also located in the kid section, making for easy browsing for the parent while the little one(s) are happily choosing their own selections. There are also good accoustics in the store so if you are in there without children and looking for a bit of quiet you usually cannot hear the children's area from other parts of the store.
This one does have chairs scattered throughout the sections, though usually in busy times these are always taken and perhaps they could use a few more of those.
There is a nice little cafe attached to the store with sandwiches, coffees, teas and treats. You can take your book selections into the cafe to browse as you snack. The cafe was recently remodeled and looks very nice.
The line to check out can get quite long, although they do their best to keep adequate staffing and keep the line moving, even at peak times.
I highly recommend this store.

This location has the same excellent burgers, toppings, fries and sides that they all have. The burgers are cooked to order and then you can pile on topings of your choice from the condiment bar. Wedge cut fries with seasoning and wide range of dipping sauces at the condiment bar. Burgers and even the kids hot dogs come on fresh baked bread, and the kids meal can have a choice of fresh fruit as the side. Drinks are huge and refillable.
In addition, this location is very very large and can accommodate larger families or parties (birthdays, etc). It has throughout the restaurant video games, older style and some newer, to keep the kids (and adults too!) occupied while waiting for food or after.
This location also has a desert bar where you can pick cookies or deserts afterwards. (Kids meal comes with a cookie of choice.) There are also made to order malts and shakes available that are quite good.
I highly recommend this restaurant for family or groups, or anyone looking for an excellent burger.

The Fuddruckers in Mission Valley is located in the same center as Borders, Kings, etc., in Mission Valley. Because of its location, parking is very scant, especially on the weekends. The location itself is pretty well laid out inside the restaurant in terms of flow of people, with indoor and outdoor (covered) seating; however, during peak times it is really impossible to get a table at all and you are left wandering around circling and circling hoping for a table to open up before your food is ready. The tables themselves are quite close together, making it a bit of an unpleasant atmosphere, especially if you have children or a larger family you need to find seating together for.
The burgers themselves are excellent with toppings you add yourself at a condiment bar. The drinks are generous and refillable. The rolls/bread for the burgers is obviously fresh baked, soft and delicious. Even the kids meal hot dog, not typically something much effort is put into at all, comes on a fresh baked bun, and can have a side of fresh fruit, making that into a little healthier option. Their baked beans are truly awesome with some type of meat in them and a smokey flavor. The fresh fries are wedges and seasoned with salt. Visit the condiment bar for a very wide selection of dips for your fries.
Overall I would recommend it for the food but if you dislike crowds stick to off times to visit this location.

The San Diego Zoo is a regular outing for us. The one time admission tickets are quite expensive, but the season passes are quite reasonable if you plan to go often and come with a magazine and coupons.
My favorite part about the zoo is not only seeing animals (obviously) but walking through the beautiful grounds. The plants and vegetation are truly beautiful. The zoo is also hilly so it is a good workout for me strolling along with the kids. I love to walk around in there.
On the downside are those awful tour buses. At several points in the zoo the pedestrians and the buses share the road, and this is not a good situation during the summer, where there seems to be one coming by every couple minutes. They are also very noisy and terribly smelly with the exhaust fumes in the area. Therefore, I definitely avoid the zoo during peak times because of those tour buses. Winter weekdays are really ideal times for the walkers and nature lovers.
I find the food is not good at all so we usually bring a lunch. The food there is not horrible but it on the whole is not very healthy and quite pricey.
The Skyfari is worth it at least once for the view.

This is my favorite local mall. It has fountains for the kids and a play area out of the way near Sears for the kids also. It has the major stores but probably is smaller than the average mall. Parking is ample.
Food is good there. If you are looking for something healthier, try the sandwich place in the food court. You can get a fruit salad, pasta, sandwiches, etc. Other food is also available there and other locations in the mall. There are also stores on the outskirts in the parking area, including Mexican restaurant, electronics store and others. The main mall has Macys, Robinsons-May, Sears, Nordstroms, Apple store, Body Shop and so forth.
It is open air and really nice on hot summer days.

I always find the BEST deals at Carlsbad Outlet Mall. They have lots of name brand stores and the prices are excellent with sales. Stores include Carters, Oshkosh, Crate and Barrel, Gap, Bass, Geoffrey Beene, Calvin Klein, Nike, Brooks Brothers, etc. There are also decent restaurants, one upscale one, several fast food and Ruby's Diner for casual sit-down.
Currently they are offering a coupon booklet with discounts from many stores if you have a AAA card. Go to the customer service area and request this for free.
There are 2 fountain areas to sit and relax with the kids. The restrooms are kept tidy and at least one of them has a nice mother's lounge for diaper changes and nursing (comfortable chairs, footstools and magazines). The restrooms also have family areas inside them that fit a stroller. I highly recommend this outlet mall.

Fashion Valley mall is my favorite "browsing" mall. I like to go in and out of the stores there and look at everything. They have all the big anchor stores (Macy's, Nordstrom's, JCPenny, Gap, Crate and Barrell, etc) plus loads of little ones. Their sales are not as good though and the mall does tend to be upscale.
This mall I find is not a good one to take little kids to. There are no fountains or fun things for them to break up the shopping trip or distract them. They do have a good food court, but the McDonald's (my child's favorite place) on the other side from the food court so not all that convenient.
The theaters there are great.
This mall tends to be one of the most overcrowded and hard to get in and out of, and does run out of parking. It is not a good one for holiday shopping of any type because of that. It is accessible by trolley and bus directly and that is a point in it's favor.
