Verity Battista is the most caring massage therapist i have experienced. I love the combination of relaxation, deep tissue work and reiki in a 90 minutes session.
I have been her client for 6 years. She used to work at the Pro Club and i thought she was the best there. She is now working in a new studio located in Redmond, very close to the Microsoft campus, right behind the Brown Bag Cafe.
If you need a break from the daily grind, this is one of the best things you can do.

If the heat wave comes back, grab the kids and head to Vasa Park.
This is a large private park at the south west end of Lake Sammamish.
It is usually a few degrees cooler than in town thanks to a gentle breeze (and the lake of course). There are many trees for shade, covered picnic tables, a kids volleyball/soccer "field" and a couple playgrounds.
The best part is the swimming area, swimming platform, diving boards and two small water slides. There is also a boat/jetski launch.
Keep an eye on your kids as the 15-year-old life guards can keep track of all of them.
They are sometimes closed for private gatherings so call before you go.

If you have raccoons or larger wild animals. I recommend these guys. Call John or Mike Robinson at 425-210-7709. They will come and set their traps then take it away when you have caught them. They charge $50 per animal, once it is caught. There may be a $50 fee to set the traps but i dont remember.
PS: they dont do rats and smaller rodents.

Jenny Miller is probably one of the very best Pilates instructors in the area. She is caring, patient but never loses her focus. She helped me a lot to gain awareness of my body and find resources (or ranges of motion) that i did not know i had.
After about 10 sessions, i realize that my sitting and standing postures are much better. I dont slouch any more and it does not take much effort at all. I also see how i am now using deep core abdominal muscles in everything i do, whether exercising or just getting out of bed. This gives me a lot more stability, less strain on the back and legs and also improved balance.
Her studio is located in her home in Redmond (north side, near Avondale). It is very well equipped and very private. This is the perfect setting for private lessons.
More information about Jenny, her studio and prices on her web site http://www.vajrapilates.com/studio.html

The Skate Park is located below the Highland Community Center. This is the only large size and well designed indoor skateboard park in the Seattle area.
They have different times reserved for different age groups. You will not find the "bullies" here (those that smoke, spit and insult the smaller kids at some of the public skate parks).
The "personnel" (young skateboarders) do provide lessons if you ask them and their fee is very modest. Some of them are very friendly (ask if Brock is still there). If not, or if you dont want to come to Bellevue you can email Joe at jmoorman@ci.bellevue.wa.us and ask him for a recommendation for an instructor. Joe is a great guy, he designs skateboard parks and can also build your own private one if you have the space at home.

I had an excellent experience with these guys.
I would give them 10 stars if i could.
They did a great job and they were also significantly cheaper than the other 2 companies i had gotten bids from. Jerry Wall is a great person to deal with. They can handle very large trees and difficult jobs (see below).
Details:
I needed to get 2 large douglas firs removed. One of them was enormous. I was a 200+ years old tree with a diameter of 5 feet at the base. To make things more interesting this tree was about 4 yards from the neighbor's house.
They had to bring a crane. First they chopped off the limbs. Some of them were 3,000 pounds. Then they cut off the tree in sections. Each one was about 5 tons. That's the weight of two Jeep Grand Cherokee's.
Needless to say, i was scared s***less.
But they did a really good job and a thorough cleanup afterwards.
One last thing: if your trees are so large that you need a crane, they will make you sign a liability waiver for potential damage to your driveway.
I did not like this but there is just no way around it. A-1 Tree service is insured and takes responsibility for their work.
And if you leave in Redmond, you need to get a permit from the city at http://www.ci.redmond.wa.us/insidecityhall/planning/codeenforce/faqtreecutting.asp

I had a very good experience from start to finish.
I would recommend them strongly. That said, I would also recommend you do not pay the balance of the invoice untill you can see how the gutters work after one full day of rain. Or if no rain is forecasted, ask them to spray your roof with a water hose and see for yourself.
Details:
First they sent someone to do the estimations. This person was very knowlegeable and patiently answered all my questions. As i requested, they provided a detailed bid to show the costs of various options. The options were: simple repair of the existing gutters, replacement with same materials, recommended upgrades (wider gutters and downspouts) and addition of the leafproof system.
They sent 2 young but experienced people, who did a really good job in a short period of time. They also checked the roof and informed me of the presence a leak (in the roof) that i was not aware of.
I decided to go for the leafproof system and this turned out to be a complicated job because of the way the metal roof on my house was designed and installed. They did a good job with it, however they were a few small leaks.
I called them and they came back to fix the leaks within a couple of days. Of course it probably helped that i did not pay the balance of the invoice when they completed the first installation, as they had requested. Thankfully it rained a lot in the few days after they had completed the job so the whole installation got a real test under heavy rain conditions. They corrected all the problems and everything is working very well.
It is too early too tell how the leafproof system will work over time as there are many pine needles that fall on this roof. But i know that it will reduce the need to clean the gutters from once to a month to maybe once every other year.

In a nutshell: very expensive and so-so service. Save yourself time and money and go to Ben Franklin in Redmond. If you want the details, read on:
I went to this store following a 4 stars review of their Woodinville store on Judy's book.
My first impression was good, the designer made great suggestions and put together the elements for framing the 3 small paintings i had brought. It did take quite a while and after almost an hour, i was ready to move on.
The first bad surprise was the price. Over $1,000 for 3 relatively small pieces (e.g. 35 inches square). The framing elements did not seem that special. Having invested an hour of my time, I convinced myself that "you get what you pay for". So i tried to hide my grimace behind a forced smile and told the employee to hit my credit card.
The second bad surprise is when i came back 10 days later to pick up the framed paintings. The first one had a chip in one corner. The second one had a bulge on the front of the frame, visibly from a nail pushing under the surface of the frame. The third one had a smaller problem: the corners of the inner frame (the fillet as it's called) did not meet very well and there was a gap of 2-3 mm.
When i expressed my disappointment, the employee tried to downplay the problems. She explained that it is hard to make things perfect and that after a little while you dont see these tiny defects any more, etc... She patched the chipped corner with some kind of black putty and tried to send me home, suggesting that the flaws would not be visible in normal light. I had to insist to get all 3 corrected.
The good thing about MQF is they advertise a total satisfaction guarantee. So she did take the 3 pieces back and they eventually fixed them.
The next day the store manager called me and apologized. However i had to wait for 2 more weeks before the frames were redone.
All in all, i found that the service is not worth the high price, except maybe for larger expensive pieces. I will not use them again.

This is a "Waldorf school". It is not for everyone.
For example, there are no computers here.
If you are very concerned with your child's academic achievements in elementary school, this one is not for you.
The curriculum is very well balanced. This is not just maths and reading but also arts, story telling, handwork, movement, foreign languages. And it's also all well integrated. For example, the children do handwork in the Japanese class, or learn the multiplication tables while juggling with bean bags.
This is one of the most impressive things about the school: children learn through all their senses, at their own pace.
This is a school that does not try to fill the children's minds with knowledge, but to allow the children to find in themselves the joy of learning without external pressure or competition.
Looking at my own children's experience, it works.
A few years ago, they were in a high pressure private Montessori school, they hated it. Because of the constant pressure, they were beginning to believe they were "not good" at this and that (maths in particular). We decided to move them to Three Cedars. I could not have expected the profound impact this decision has created in our lives. Two years later, they still love their school and look forward to going to school almost everyday. We don't have to torture them with homework any more, they are already independent and manage it on their own.
Three Cedars offers classes from K through 8th grade and are adding a new grade each year.
Last, you should be aware that tuition is expensive, as most of the private schools in the area.

I needed lift for 2 jet skis. This was a challenging job because there was not much room to fit them in.
Lonnie Davis is the owner of the company and also inventor of the water powered lifts. He built custom lifts for us and installed them himself.
The quality is great. The job was very well done. The lifts work great, do not require any maintenance, power or anything, just a regular garden hose.
They get very busy in the summer time, so if you need boat lifts, you'd want to call them early in the spring.
The price was very reasonable. I ended up paying a little bit less than had been quoted initially.
Their web site is awful, but does have correct contact information and a few pictures.
This is a mom and pop shop, even though they sell boat lifts of all sizes and all over the US. Dont be surprised if it takes them a few days to return a call or if a Lonnie's granddaughter picks up the phone.
